Did you say you were making legal copies? Did you say you own the movies you got and returned from NetFlix? Your previous post speaks for itself.Originally Posted by Jah_Rankin

Sure, there's always the "everyone does it" but to blatantly admit it publicly is a no-no. What would happen if I went to my video rental store and said to the clerk, "I'm renting this movie today and probably have it back in a few hours after I'm done copying it". In the US, that's illegal.
I thought you were issuing a apology but the "get real!!!!" part sounded way too sarastic. You should've have left it out. There are things we discuss and do in this forum and there are also things we discuss and do outside of it. We don't really need to know what actually goes on the outside.
Just play the game.

The fact of the matter is I know people who always use the fast transcoders... when I show friends they can tell me easily which is the movie I did and which is not mine. I've barrowed several movies for this test. At work my co workers can tell the same. I carry a DVD wallet full of movies with me to work every night, so does another co worker who uses DVDshrink 100% of the time. Only any long movie my results are better. Besides I have an entire machine just for encoding. It has a big hard drive and there is no reason to rush.
When I upgrade to HDTV I don't want ot be unhappy with what I have. -
I agree with you flaystus...I'm looking into a 110 inch projector tv, and want to feel like i'm running around with those little hobbits.Originally Posted by flaystus

Ditto on the big screen TV. Prices are getting very tempting. But when I reflect on how dual burners are now only 2/3 the price I paid just a few short months ago, I'll hold out a little longer. It would stink to have noticeably inferior quality backups, lucky I only have a couple dozen.
As to the "everybody does it" argument, not necessarily. Consider these points:
1) Many folks here are more interested in playing around with home movies. Might get into that soon myself.
2) Some might ask where you find a hundred movies from the last five or so years worth more than one viewing. A few, maybe. The possibilities expand if you like old movies. JMHO
3) Downloaded movies are usually lousy quality anyway, or so many here maintain. Some people on this site are still on dialup, so they can forget that idea.
4) This is just a fun hobby. When it gets too easy, I'll lose interest, I'm sure. Might have to play around with bbMPEG or maybe the YMPEG "filter" that's supposed to work within Virtual Dub. Lots of possibilities.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
Again if u can all afford this high quality tv;s thwn u can surely afford the peviewed new realease and such @ blockbuster for 9.99, I rest my case.Originally Posted by IkeJon

the process you use for movie only can be duplicated with DVD Shrink. if you leave the main movie of a DVD-9 uncompressed and get rid of unwanted material (audio and subs) and the filesize indicator is green (<=4464M) the quality of the main movie should be identical to the original DVD. Or am I wrong? thanks. -
It may surprise you that I do not have tons of movies, therefore do not have to worry about the time involved. I understand people who only use fast encoders, they just want it done and now. But the point is I'm not one of them, and there are many of us. Just not as many of use as there are people who are people prone to insert video into DVDshirnk or CloneDVD and have it go to town reguardless of the video being put in.Originally Posted by Jah_Rankin
I still say the first time you try a 3 hour movie what you get sucks, its just that an opinion. Therefore I use a slower encoder method. Is it making your point to argue against my opinion? No, it just makes it sound like people who do high quality reencodes are dumb, they are not. They just are not willing to give in on quality.
If someone ask for the highest quality possible and they get a reply that says CCE then they are of course Correct. A reply of DVDShrink would be of course a lie. Does that mean DVDShrink sucks? Very far from it. It has its place, but when the word "Perfect" is mentioned, something just not possible in most cases, then the closest possible is a CCE method. -

People always talk about the future this and the future that. In the future, I'll watch movies of the future. Old ones are expected to be of old quality. And most of us will have vision problems as we age anyway, so it'll all look the same in the end.

If u can pay for the high cost of CCe or TMPG or the high cost of plasma tv's and such u have no place in this back up web site as a moderator or seeking help. Millionaire

Do you see the problem with this entire discussion? -
I have done a lot of backups up to date and used alot of different tools. Each one has its purpose and through experience. I always analyze the situation use the preferred right tool in my backup arsenal for the right job. There is one thing I've learn along the way and that is...QUALITY will always be a priority before SPEED, regardless on the going price of the programs. IMHO, transcoders like DVD Shrink, DVD2One, Recode 2, DVD95Copy, etc are great but for 2 hour long movies, it sucks! Even the authors will tell you that. As for CCE, an encoder, it really does better with the quality of the video but the processing time can be unbearable at times. If you have already used both a transcoder and encoder, you will know this known fact.Originally Posted by Jah_Rankin
Why is that when someone says that CCE is better, you have to flame them by saying that they're filthyrich and have no place in backing up DVDs or even to be in this forum. Alot of us, whether rich or poor, do it as a hobby. This a great forum for people to get help and give help. Your attempt to comment on a person's financial status and position only makes me think that are you trying to save face on your quest for DVD Shrink or transcoder supremacy for all DVDs. -
Did you ever explore the fact that it may not be about money all the time?Originally Posted by Jah_Rankin

You can settle for bad quality. I'm always looking for something better. That's what the future is about. I'm sure our vision problems of the present will not be the same problems fifty years from now.Originally Posted by lordsmurf

If u can afford expensive commodities like plasma and 110 "hdtv then a more expensive hobby is reasanable needed, like flying planes, building race cars, sailing, etc, not spending hrs waiting for a encode or having seperate machines to justify waiting 6 to 30 hrs for 1 movie just to maintain slightly better quality than dvd2one, dvdshink, nero recode, Inst copy, Intervideo dvd copy, etc . U all failed to mention all the guides needed for proggys that uses CCE or TMPG to work well and the side effects, which includes audio sync issues, chooppy playback and even not playing in sum stand alone players???? If u have the money to purchase even the low end plasma which is about $4000 u can purchase 400 or more dvd's. Who do u all think u r fooling with the info u provide about 50 inch plasma's and such
Lets be realistic here guys is all I'm saying, not bashing or flaming any1.
Live Life 2 The Fullest, Live The Life U Luv & Luv The Life U Live! -
Well, like i said before, my personal financial situation is not the issue, and has nothing to do with what i own, or what i spend. In reality, i could never afford the projector that i may be aquiring in a trade with a friend. And where building race cars and flying planes would be interesting, dvd copying is no comparison as far as a hobby for me. yes, i do it as a hobby-a different kind of hobby, but i dont mind the wait while encoding because i just let i run while i do something else.Originally Posted by Jah_Rankin

And i'm not bashing anyone either, just find it funny when someone tells me what to do with my $ when they dont even know me. -
The truth of the matter is that they r not a lot of movies worth purchasing as well as sum r worth purchasing to others , if any 1 here can list over 200 good movies that r must have I'll like to see it. The 200 or more $ u spent on a seperate machine could have gone towards the purchase of 20 movies that r must have. I use to change my own oil in vehicles untill the 10 to 15 dollar oil change specials came along, which in turn saved time from me getting under cars, messing up garage floor, time not having to return oil back to store for recycling, having dirty hands, etc. Now I take my cars and in 10 minutes oil is changed????? It cost 4 dollrs more than if I did the oil change my self.
Same with CCe or Tmpg, is it cost effective after u spend time getting the blanks(which cost), then hrs of wear and tear on your hard drives, electricity for 30 hrs of encoding time, then another 15 to 20 minutes to burn
Over a proggy that takes 1 hr total time to complete with near to original qualty @ most.
Live Life 2 The Fullest, Live The Life U Luv & Luv The Life U Live! -
In no way I'm telling u what to do with your chees, but I'm just picking sense from nonsense. In the dinosaur days of encoding we used CCE and TMPG for all it was worth, but we r in a new era now as technology and the geniuses have developed better ways for us to achieve the same results in a simpler format and efficient manner. I will never and I "quote never revert to the 6 plus hr proggys again, not as long as they r 15 to 1 hr long proggys that work as well or even better in sum cases"Originally Posted by IkeJon
