  1. I'm noticing that DVD+R media packaging, especially Imation, does not provide the write speed. I know that there is 8x 4x and 2.4x but they all come in the same style packaging. Is there a way to tell what the write speed is by looking somewhere on the packaging? I feel like a reject asking this, but I have to know if Im buying what I think Im buying.

    Thanks

  2. FWIW, here's some part number info on +r's from Imation's website:

    0-51122-16022-6, 4.7GB DVD+R Single Sided Write-Once
    0-51122-16337-1, 4.7GB DVD+R Discs, 3-pack
    0-51122-16135-3, 4.7GB DVD+R Single Discs, 5-pack
    0-51122-16339-5, 4.7GB DVD+R Discs, 25-pack Spindle
    0-51122-16882-6, 4x DVD+R 4.7GB Discs, 5-pk
    0-51122-16883-3, 4x DVD+R 4.7GB Discs, 25-pk Spindle

but notice that first 4 listed do not give wiite speeds. Can only assume they are 2.4x.... never liked that "assume" thing.

Boy do I know what you are talking about there, went to Staples the other day and bought the Imation dvd+r's. I asked the salesidiot why they didnt say what write speed these things were, his reply was that 'They are new, still in the package, so they must be 4X' After laughing in his face I bought 2 25 pack spindles cause they were on sale, and have regreted the purchase since. They were 2.4X after all. Imation are junk, and ill I buy those things!
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

But if you get them at the right price, do you bemoan that lost 8 or 16 or 33 minutes, if they burn properly?

Personally, I don't burn 10 per night, so an extra half hour, at half the price, if they work, doesn't bother me.

Just installed an 811s in this machine. Too busy perusing this forum to burn anything, just set the other mach up to do it at 4X. In a little bit, I'll go in, click OK and take out the disk, maybe start another, maybe go to bed..

    Cheers,

    George
