dvd only starts after a couple of times (no disk message)

Hello there again you all!

I have a nasty problem with playing my own burned dvd movies. I convert from avi (etc) to dvd and burn on -rw before using a dvd author (so there is always a menu!).

Most of the time, after a lot of spinning around, my dvd player (philips 634) says that there is no disk. But when I try a couple of times he suddenly does recognize it and the everthing is works as a charm. Does somebody know what causes this strange behaviour? Of course I use clean and and not harmed disks and my player is brandnew so there is no dirt in it or whatsoever.

Who knows the trick to solve this problem?
