DVD Shrink 3.1.2 is now available, it fixes an important bug which could cause video corruption at low compression.
The bug only affected some DVDs. If you did not have any problem with previous versions, then there is no need to do all your backups again.
You can get it:

http://www.dvdshrink.info/downloads.php
http://www.doom9.org/
It will also be available soon at http://www.dvdshrink.org, but currently having some server problems.

Holly cow, I thought that was what beta versions were for, finding bugs
So version 3.0 was a beta and 3.1 was a beta and now 3.1.1 was a beta
You sure Nero and Shrink aren't the same company?
I think I'll wait for version 3.1.2.111.3.5 before I switch from 3.0beta5 -
complaining about an excellent FREE program ?
anyway --

Common guys, stop whinning and enjoy the best damn DVD backup program in the universe,,, and you don't have pay a single penny for it!! So please be thankfull that Mr. Shrink is nice enough to continue to provide us with any number of upgraded version as he deems nescessarywhich more than I can say for the makers of PAID programs
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
yep shrink is king
what a program now it even romoves the layer change
does shrink 3.1 shutdown when you hit backup
it does on my friends computer
works fine on minenuff respect -
the shutdown seems to be a Windows ME problem so far as I can tell. Presonally I still like 3beta5 better. I prefer multiple windows for re-author.

It never fails to amaze me that people have gripes with freeware. These are programs that are hobbies and are designed to provide an alternative to commercially available solutions. Does anyone expect to have completely trouble free operation from freeware ? I personally love DVDShrink and think the creator is a genius. I have trialled CloneDVD and DVD2One and would not pay for them. I also would not complain to the creator of Shrink because I am in debt to him for sharing his hobby.
There's an old saying..."You get what you pay for...". Basically, if you don't like it, don't use it. And if its free, be happy if it works. If in doubt, Google it. -
Read this link about the author of DVD SHRINK PROGRAM. He will discontinue his development of DVD SHRINK PROGRAM.

If I'm not mistaken this person is now working for AHEAD NERO. I read about it either from this forum site or from CDFREAKS.com. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong about that.
DVD SHRINK is such a great program and it's free. I agree with jimmalenko that if you don't like the program then don't use it. Be happy DVD SHRINK is a program that we all did not have to pay for.

He shpuld post up the code for open source so we can further develop it, or he can pass it off to another person or something. I would hate to see this thing stop, its got a few potentials for extra features IMO.

I'd imagine he'll stop working on any new versions other than bug fixes for the current version.

I always find it sadly amusing when people insist that "free" somehow equates to "you're never allowed to say anything even remotely negative about this wonderful product, you ungrateful bastard"...
Don't sweat the petty things, just pet the sweaty things. -

Making it open source won't increase the number of rip off packages selling it. 99% of the "companies" who have ripped off freeware have made no attempt to hide the name of programs they are stealing or to try to incorporate existing code into their own software. Quite frankly, most of these "businesses" wouldn't even know how to modify that portion of the code if it were open source. Its much easier to just stick it in a box with your name on it and then close shop when too many people start asking questions. We see a new one of these each week.
It would be nice if DVDShrink were made open source so we could have the quality of something like ReJig combined with the functionality of DVDShrink, but anyone who knows anything about contracts will tell you this will never happen. DVDShrink (the author) now works for Nero on their software which is very similar in function to DVDShrink (the program.) There is absolutely no way he would have been offered this position absent a non-compete clause. I can guarantee you that he is contractually prohibited from further developing DVDShrink until so many years after he ends employment with Nero, and by then I'm sure his software will be obsolete. -

Last comment on this as the thread has taken a severe 180 degree turn.

Speculation will never end as to what exactly happened or why or what or when or whatever. But all that matters really is he'll continue fixing bugs with 3.1.x and I'm more than happy with all the features. Please continue the speculation as it's amusing
