  1. I get this error when I try to open my captured AVI file from my brand new Sony TRV22 camcorder. If I can't get this to work I might as well take it back!!!!!!

Any idea how I can resolve this?

I want to do some editing to the video, and am very used to Vdub, but very annoyed it doesn't load!

Please please please help me if you can!

    Many thanks

If i'm not mistaken, the DVSD codec that it needs to play the file is a mainconcept codec. What capture program do you use and also try to capture using another codec (compressor) or no compression at all.
Virtualdub will give you this error only when it cannot find the particular decompressor to open the file.

  3. Hello.

    Thank you for replying quickly.

I think you misunderstand. The capture I have is just done in Windows Movie Maker and is the highest quality capture - DV-AVI PAL (25Mbs) 720x576 pixels 25frames per second.

It's editing this captured file i'm having difficulty with. Vdub won't load it (error depicted above).

I have a few versions of Vdub, 1.5.7, 1.5.9 and VirtualModDub, all of which cannot open the file.

However TMPGEnc CAN open the file, and I can edit the video using the settings in there, but I prefer to use Vdub so I can add a watermark to my recording.

I have searched and not found what I need. I presume it's a codec from the error, but no idea which one I need.

if only I could open the file in Vdub then it would be great
