    Fair enough.

  2. but what is really ironic, is that despite my praise for dvd2one, i made a dvd of some personal stuff and i kind of made it a bit bigger then it should have been (due to a second title i added) so ia m going ot be using dvdshrink to fix that (just lose the quality on the second title, as thats not as important to me as the first one) woooooo

  3. Mazinz, you seem to have carried out the test on one film. You need to do a test on a number of films to get a better idea. Pls read the article,

    http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/114/

tests have been done on a number of different films.
dvd shrink may give a better result with matrix reloaded but with the majority of movies I have myself observed better results with dvd2one. Downside is the gui of dvd2one. I also find that nero recode gives a slightly better quality then dvd shrink but it is not free and has been developed by the same developer as dvd shrink.

aleem, I told you in another post that article is over 6 months old and uses old versions of programs so I wouldn't recommend people take much notice of it now

it's not really worth the cyberspace it's written on even if it still makes a good read

it's about time it was updated but even then if it was done again you could compare different scenes of the movie and get different results in order of quality

@all, 'in my eyes', if quality was such a big issue for people then they will make up their own mind anyway and not need, nor really listen to anyone else's opinion . These guys will probably also realise you can lead a horse to water but you can't force it to drink it

bring on Dual Layer I say

  6. Hey Aleem,

i did mention in a previous post on this subject, that i have done numerous testing with dvd2one and dvdshrink and that i found dvd2one to give better quality, and as the previous psot mentioned, it is really all up to the user. This particular subject is so split down the middle, that the only real way of deciding, is to try it out yourself and see what you like better. And yes i agree--"bring on the dual layers"

witty, my friend. but seriously, I don't care about the interface, hell I appreciate there being an interface at all, my other hobby requires me to use a lot of command-line utils which I loathe.

  9. When I want to do the movie Only I still use DVD2one quite a bit, it does movie only conversions nicely. Otherwise I use Instantcopy or DVDShrink

Using Pirates of the Caribbean (wanted a 2+ hour movie) I ripped it with Decrypter, used DVD2One movie only, and burned at 8X with Nero. Total time 39 minutes 37 seconds for the total processing time of the three steps. Did not count loading discs, starting each program, or selecting options.

Using Shrink 3.1 I ripped, processed, and burnt the same movie only in 28 minutes. Quality on both appear to be fine on my 84" screen although quality IS subjective.

No other point to make other than providing information to the group. I may start using Shrink more just because of the one program approach. Twelve minutes is not that big a deal and on other systems it may not even be that much (or could be more, I guess). When you factor in the convenience of being able to load up both disks, get it started, and walk away until it's done it makes a compelling reason to use Shrink.

I'll have to play with it a little more before I decide.
Actually ... I like using AnyDVD >> CloneDVD to remove the extra crap I dont want and then use DVDShrink or DVD2One for the final outcome. But I also own DVD-Rebuilder ... and I do use it more often for longer movies.

Hmmm well as long as this threads here:

I still use DVD2One. I use the last version, before 2.0 hit. I do my editing first with programs like DVDshrink and DVDRemake Pro, then use DVD2One for the final resize.

From what I've heard in various research comparisons, DVD2One gives slightly better quality than shrink due to the types of compression engines they use. Also I've long since payed for it anyway, i think back in '02.

I've always been satisfied with the quality DVD2One puts out and will continue using it. Though i would NOT recommend others use it, since it costs $45 and does not have half the features of a nice FREE program like DVDshrink- which gives almost the same quality anyway.
