hi there folks - got a prob with the new version
before 1.5 it was fine in my standalone
now when i play i have no probs, but if i forward to the next chapter the player is counting but no video or sound appears - just a blank frame
Its fine when playing from the start and leaving it alone, but if i want to rewind back say a minute to watch something again i get the same thing - also with the goto feature on my player.
i have a datawrite player that plays anything you can throw at it and have never had this problem till the last update
any ideas?

Well nothing has changed in the authoring engine for a number of months now. What are you files? VCD or SVCD.....

makes no difference - mostly vcd but some svcd too
something must have changed - before 1.5 was fine but now the 1.51.2 is causing probs
Unfortunately your software doesnt allow me to use a previous version which i was quite happy with - why is this?
I understand that the .net has had an upgrade, could this be something to do with it?
I also understand that you like to make sure everyone has the latest version and you like automatically updating the software but couldnt you make this an option rather than a forced download? - I liked the old version - it worked for me but now it doesnt and im having to re-encode all the files to standard dvd so i can watch em!
If there's an older one i can use please let me know how -
maybe a weird suggestion but what happens if you try a vcd or svcd that worked ok in the past with this version?
Greatings,
Yf -
already done it - same bad results but worked before - must be a software change thats causing it cos ive changed nothing else

The authoring engine has not changed for about 6 months

I have this problem too - i'm certain there is an issue here. I've used svcd2dvd for a long time now and have successfully converted dozens of films with very few problems.
Since the most recent update (the original v1.5 was fine) at least one film on each disc does not work correctly, but is fine burn't as a vcd or svcd.
On my standalones I get sound but no picture, on the pc i can sometimes see the film but it freezes when i use next, with only the sound continuing. I'm using .bin files, the ripped .mpg and _DVD.mpg files play ok on the pc. I've tried both ripping progs, with and without the 'fix' option.
I appreciate you say that 'The authoring engine has not changed for about 6 months' but I never came across this problem before the recent versions (after 1.5) and have converted many many films. It has happened on every disc since but not every movie on every disc. -
I've just checked a DVD i did last night. SVCD & VCD in two VTSs. FF/RW & SKIP all work as expected.
The only real difference between 1.5.xxxx & 1.51.2 is the default ripping program. You can revert to the "old" one in the options. Maybe that could help.SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

I just did another test using all the older/safer/slower versions of programs available from options, still got the same issue. I did notice something though - pressing next freezes the screen, but plays the correct sound, until you reach a chapter which starts with a seperate mpg in the original files, then the picture comes back, but forward to the next chapter and it vanishes again.

ok i will look into it further. As my mpgs are ok can you upload a sample of one of yours to:
ftp://svcd2dvd:Upload@ftp.svcd2dvdmpg.com:7676/bubbz
Use the sample tool from the menu.
Make it as big as your bandwidth can allow - to aid my tests.
Also, once you have uploaded your sample, can you do a SVCD2DVD run and also upload your VIDEO_TS folder zipped up.
A description of your settings would also be helpful.

i'll not be at home for the next few days, but i'll try to sort this out when i return. Cheers.
edit: ignore that - i had 30min before i left.... -

Previously this was the third movie on a disc (3 vts's), with a menu and 10 min chapters.
With the sample I've used 2 min chapters and no menu - but the behaviour is identical.
Cheers. -
I shall take a look. Thanks.

This is exactly my problem too.
As I have said in previous posts, I have successfully use SVCD2DVD for many months with no problems at all ever. But since most recent upgrades I have had no picture, yet good sound on some films.
I Have tried all combinations of ripper, demux, resample etc, all with the same result.
Hope we can resolve this, cos this great piece of software is no use to me right now. Especially since you can't test it prior to burning, because it plays OK on the PC, just not in my standalones!

bubbz,
Thanks for the sample. Here are my initial findings:
Taking your VIDEO_TS I played it with WINDVD. It played perfect. No pause at the beginning and the chapters played as expected. Tried with IFOEdit. The same. IFOEdit is IMHO the best software DVD player when it comes to strictly enforcing the DVD spec…..
Playing it in PowerDVD, however, gave rise to the same issues you describe.
I then burnt it & tried it in my DVD player. No dice. I have a new player and have discovered a flaw with it! It doesn’t recognise DVDRs with such small content. Therefore I ran SVCD2DVD on three copies of the mpg – creating a single VTS. It played, but also exhibited the non expected behaviour of chapters….
I would like to try that DVD on a friends DVD to determine whether it is my player or the DVD…..
Next I took a SVCD did a SVCD2DVD run with 10 min chapters. Played in IFOEdit, PowerDVD, WINDVD perfectly with chapters. Once burnt it played perfectly with chapters on my DVD player.
Next I took another film – VCD this time. Again it played perfectly on all of the above.
So I’m leaning towards the source being the issue but I have a few other tests to perform. These will take me into the low level structure of the mpg & the vobs/ifo files.
I also have a much earlier build of the authoring engine which I will try.
Any comments on my initial findings?SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

Thanks for looking at it, I also have other source files which work fine. Strange thing is that I never had this problem before, but now it's happening with up to 1 in 3 of the files I try.
I'm wondering if a recent change to a (s)vcd encoding/authoring program is producing slightly dubious mpeg's? although I've no particular program in mind... Hopefully you will find something in the low-level structure of the file... -
Well I'm going to burn my backlog of files to vcd/svcd today instead of potentially wasting time converting them to dvd - a huge step backwards, but i've lost enough time already.
Any more news Chrissyboy? I see a couple more posts from people with 'sound but no video' problems, that makes at least 5 people reporting this issue now... -
Chrissyboy: there has been no word from you on this issue for a week now (plus there are two other posts regarding 'audio but no video' issues https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=201079 and https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=201238 ).
Are you any closer to solving the issue yet? -
Not yet. The other 2 issues for me are different. The issue on this thread is pertinent to chapters.
