  1. I have an older Phillips DVD 751 player that, what appears to be overheating.. After about 40 minutes of play it freezes on me and I have to shut it off..

Last night I took the cover off of it and it played an entire dvd. Also with the cover on, and after the 40 minute of playing to the freezing point, the dvd is untouchable....

Now with the cover off, and playing it for 70 minutes, the dvd itself is cold to the touch. SO to me it must be getting hot in there and its freezing the player...

Is there a way to solder or wire say a fan from radio shack in one of these players? They sell 12 VOLT DC AND 120 VOLT FANS? Which one if any could I use? Do they sell these same type fans but with a standard plug on it? Just cut a hole mount it and plug it in? I would like to solder one on the power supply and have it power on when you turn on the player, but hey, simple is for me any way.. Plug it in and go is just as good...

Anyone else ever add a fan to thier equipment? If so, how? Thanks for the info and links to web sites if there are any?

    Thanks,
    Spankey

Would it make sense to buy a cheap Apex player from Walmart for $45? You could hook up a fan but it seems like a lot of work for the end result. I would look at the switch and see if it is actually switching 120 volts or not. If it is, I would buy a 120 volt fan. If it is only switching the regulated DC (you can turn the power on and off from the remote) the you might be out of luck. They make those power supplies as cheap as possible, and that normally means there isn't enough left over to run a fan. If you don't know how to check the above things, then I can't tell you a way to do it.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

I think so. It's overheating because something is wrong with it. Consign it to the scrap heap.

  4. I remember what my eighth grade electronics teacher told me .."heat kills electronics".
My Mintek 2110 was doing the same thing so I drilled holes in the chassis cover, problem fixed.Would it kill these companies to add ventilation holes to their product?!
The power to the DVD-ROM motor should be 12VDC but use a voltmeter to be sure, you might be able to find a schematic for your player online using google.

If ur dvd player have a standatd DVD-Rom as the drive in side and is attached by a molex, then just get a molex Y spitter and attached a small 40mm computer fan to the additional molex. The only concern is if the power supply in the dvd player has sufficient current to support the additional fan drain. Also the fan is going to add additional noice. I will be doing this to my citizen 3830/Norcent 300 players since they have a heating prob also. Not to the pt of freezing up the player but enuf to screw up playback of some dvd -/+ R bkups that I have made. Just have to determine if the unit has an internal molex connector for the drive unit. But you might also have to cut some air holes to help air circulation. Sounds like a lot of work, so its prob easiler just to get a new DVD player at Wal Mart cheap. I am doin the mods to my players only because I mod'd/hack'd them already and I have 3 of them so I would like to keep them. But if I only had one I would just throw it away and get a newer one.
