I've been backing up my DVDs using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink for a couple months now. It works great for most movies. In some cases I just take the main movie and don't need to use DVD Shrink. Or sometimes if I want all the menus, I just compress it.
But with one of my DVDs (Dave Matthews Band Live at Folsom Field) the video file itself is pretty big (around 7GB), so when I use DVD Shrink, the compression is over 50%, and it looks crappy when I play it.
So I guess my only option is to split it into two discs? How does that work, does the DVD just prompt you to insert disc 2 at the appropriate point. Do the menu's still work? And what tool works best? I found a bunch that look interesting under the Tools section. DVDStripper seems to do it, but it isn't rated very well.
For this particular DVD, there are 9 VOB files that make up the entire concert. But they seem to be split at random points. Not natural breaks in the concert (like certain songs).
Thanks
Mike

DVDFab can do it or you can strip it using 2COOL's guides and make 2 DVD's that way using Ifoedit
when you say it's got 9 VOB's do you mean a total 9 VOB's, VTS_01_x.VOB to VTS_09_x.VOB's or 9 Titles?
as for DVDStripper's rating, I wouldn't take much notice of that last comment as I could show you 100's of positive ones but I won't
you could try doing a search for DVDStripper in this forum and it will give you a better idea of what it can do or visit the DS forum -
Thanks for the reply. Also thanks for the very good points about DVDStripper. I looked into it a bit more and it looks good.
It's all one title. VTS_01_x.VOB. Approximately 6 files that are 1GB each, and the VTS_01_0.VOB and VTS_01_9.VOB are a bit smaller.
So how would any program break this up? If it's all one title, does it just get split in the middle?

does it have chapters?. Can you use Ifoedit's Copy To Clipboard feature?. You can show the title info like this is you paste and cut the info

Yep, it's got chapters. Lots of them. I presume one for each song?
I'm having trouble IFOedit's Copy2Clipboard feature. I can see the info, and 21 chapters. But if I press the button nothing goes to the clipboard. I also tried Highlight/selecting the lines I wanted, then hitting Copy2Clipboard. Still nothing. Using version 0.96.
