  1. I have read a lot on these forums and have now captured some MPEG-2 format films on Hard drive (1 to 2.5gb sizes). I have used mpeg-vcr to edit these.

    My questions are:

    1. Being in MPEG-2 format (using ATI capture card), do I need to author or can I creat a DVD straight away and with what software?

    2. I want to insert titles and chapters - any prog. recommendations please as at the begging of some of the chapters I want to "print" text to discribe the scene.

    Help will be appreciated.

    Hi devdeep,

Firstly, a tip: get yourself a rewriteable for test burns.

"Author" = doing the fancy stuff like menus and chapters. You then burn the VOB files that are created (which contain the menus etc. and the video) to create the DVD disc.

    2. I want to insert titles and chapters - any prog. recommendations please as at the begging of some of the chapters I want to "print" text to discribe the scene.
That'll be part of the authoring process.

If you're new to this, TMPGEnc DVD Author isn't a bad place to start for the follwoing reasons:

    1. It's easy to pick up, beginner friendly.
    2. It's fully functional on a 30 day trial.
    3. It's fairly versatile.
    4. It burns too.
    5. It knocks out pretty decent looking authored DVD's

There are others, e.g. DVD Lab - but that's are bit more complicated. Check out the "DVD Author" sub-section under the Tools section.

    Hope that helps. Good luck...
