Hello everyone, this is my first post here but I have been lurking for quite some time and reading everything I can find. Excellent info to be found on this forum!

    Here's the problem I'm having.

I downloaded CloneDVD (trial version) and tried to backup a DVD-9 format movie. It automatically split the backup into two discs, and created an image of the first disc to be burned. Since the trial version only allows you to burn ONE disc, I could only backup half of the movie without using compression software like DVD Shrink. When I got to that point, I figured "what the hell?" and paid my $99.95 to get the full version. I did this before I verified the first disc I burned with the software worked properly. Very foolish mistake, as it turns out. I was able to burn the first disc, but the format was trash. The chapters within the movie were all out of sequence, with audio that did not synch up with the video, and lots of other weird errors. After I bought the full version it wouldn't burn the second disc, or any other disc, at all. After it makes the image file, and prompts me to insert a writable disc and click "Burn", it locks up a few seconds after I click "Burn." It does this with a variety of differnt DVD writable media, and regardless of whether I back up the movie from a folder on the hard disc or from the source DVD directly.

I have two computers with DVD burners, and have the same trouble on both machines. My first machine is a Gateway 600XL laptop with a Toshiba 1X DVD burner, 512MB RAM, 60GB WD hard drive. My desktop is an Athlon XP 2800+ based machine (home built) with a Plextor PX-708A burner, 512MB RAM, 80GB WD hard drive.

On both of the above machines I can burn DVD's just fine with a variety of other software. I also own Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and ImgTool Classic. Using those programs (or a combination thereof) I have no problem backing up movies, creating data DVD's, etc.

I guess the "one click backup" of DVD movies that CloneDVD advertises lured me in to dropping 100 bucks on it. I tried their tech support, but they only do tech support via e-mail, and over the last week all of my tech support inquiries have been ignored.

Can any of the DVD burning veterans on here point me in the right direction? I'd hate for that $100 I spent to be a total loss.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer!

I think there are two differnent Clone DVD - The one you apparently got which will split a long movie into two Disks as it does not "shrink". Th real CloneDVD will allow you to shrink and it's by Elby and it cost $50.00 not $100.00. I has sheep cartoons on the logo!!! WHatever that means but it is the true original Clone DVD. You'll have to find it via a shearch.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

The version I got is from this website:
    http://www.clonedvd.net/

It doesn't have the sheep logo, nor is it by Elby. As a matter of fact, the interface did not even vaguely resemble the interface in the tutorial on this site. I thought the reason for that might be a difference in version.

The version I have has a painfully simple interface with virtually no features or options. All it does is back up movies. Even if it worked, I wish I hadn't spent so much money on it.

    It should look like this
"Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. I go to my imaginary spot, where the beach is perfect and the water is perfect and the weather is perfect. The only bad thing there are the flies. They're terrible!" Jack Handey

I definetly bought the wrong software then. Is someone breaking the other's copyright by using the same name? I can't imagine I'm the first person to get duped (man I feel dumb!).

Since the software won't work and the company I bought it from won't help me fix it, I think I'll just ask for a refund and dispute the charges with my credit card company if they refuse.

You should have no problem with the card company.

    I wouldn't think so.

FYI, here's a screenshot of what this worthless software looks like when its running:

  8. Good luck it once took me about 4 hours of phone calls over a course of 3 to 4 months to do a charge back with my credit card company when I bought a stupid dvd program (knowning full well it was bogus). It ended up being a pirated version of Instant Copy 7 which I already had a legal copy for. Anyway good luck in getting your money back. BTW, those numbnuts are closed..but I'm sure just under 20 other domain names with different ends of names made up. It's an endless cycle.

BTW, I have a list of scam dvd software here.

I just added clonedvd.net because it's playing the name game and it's deceptive IMHO. Many people buy a dvd burner at their local computer store then type in 'dvd copy' in google and from that point...they're screwed.
