What tools do I need 4 'compilation' movie?

Greetings all...
I've learned to backup and burn full dvd movies w/good results, however I'd like to make a 'compilation' movie using clips from different movies from different discs( I'd like to put together a disc w/ my favourite car chase scenes from different movies). I'm planning on trying TMPGencDVDauthor as my authoring prog. What are some of the better tools for separating/preparing these clips before or during authoring. Obviously I'm a newbie to authoring so any feedback/tips is greatly appreciated.

p.s. - my OS is winXP pro
