  1. Okay, I "shrank" my movie with DVDShrink. Now, how do I burn a disc using Nero 5?
I gotta tell ya...the reason DVDXCopy is so popular is because this whole dvd backup thang is kinda confusing for a newbie.
    Thanks Ya'll

Use DVDShrink 3.1 it has Nero burning incorporated. Does it all now rip transcode and burn with Nero.

after u've "shrank" the movie open up "nero burning rom" and a "new compilation" window should pup up and at the top left of that window pull it down and select "dvd" then select "dvd-video" then click new. after that get all the files dvd shrink made u and dump them all into the "video_ts" folder(don't put anything in "audio_ts") after that at the top select the icon that says "burns the current compilation"

this is all assuming that the version of nero u have is about the same as the one i have, i might not be 100% on. (or do wut nyplayer said lol)

    hope this helps, josh

Those instructions will work with all the versions I've seen from 5.5.9.17 to 6.0.0.28.

  5. NYplayer is right. The new DVD shink 3.1 couldn't be easier to use. Takes care of Nero for you.

Just a quick comment to anyone who suggests guides to all newbies...

One thing I've found as I've looked at most guides.... tho the authors obviously know how to do what they are teaching, they typically have alot of difficulty with wording their instructions in such a way that they make 100% sense to the least sophisticated reader.

example: Tho I respect Afonic's knowledge, have learned from his guides, and I do appreciate the time and effort he has put into helping others, I find I spend more time trying to decypher what he is getting at than I spend actually learning how to do what he's explaining. Check out any of his guides and you'll see precisely what I mean. His guides are not unique in this area tho...tiz merely an example.

To anyone wanting to create a guide, I strongly recommend utilizing the services of a friend with very good language skills to edit or at least proof-read the guides before publishing.

I strongly feel that this issue is the reason that many newbies come here to post more questions even after reading the guides. IMO, if words are spelled wrong or used incorrectly, and sentences are a bit disjointed or incorrect in order or structure, it could tend to leave the newbie feeling more confused than they were before checking out the guide.

Hope I don't piss anyone off by saying all this....it's just something that's been bugging me for some time now.

yeah, but with a question like this, guides are a really good start....Even if they are confusing, they can get you pointed in the right direction.
But you are right, to err is human....yada yada yada

  9. Okay, I did it! After much hair-pulling, head-scratching, and almost heading for the DVDXCopy box at my local Best Buy, someone emailed me and suggest I use the "UDF/ISO" method which is explained at the DVDShrink site. Yup, that worked. Yup, I am so damn happy. Yup, I TOTALLY APPRECIATE EVERYBODYS SUGGESTIONS AND INPUT! Sorry, I hate to yell...but I am pretty darn psyched.
    Thanks Again

From my experience with Nero versions 5.5.9.17 to the current 6, using the DVD-Video mode is the way to go. Just use the wizard and select DVD-Video.

On the right, navigate to the files that shrink or dvd2one (or whatever u used to compress) kicked out....and drag the FILES over to the left, INTO the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero provides. Ignore the AUDIO_TS folder. If your compression software or *you* created a VIDEO_TS folder...do NOT drag that folder into the Nero VIDEO_TS folder. Just drag over the files that are in it. Should be 2 bups, 2 ifos, and some vobs.

I read the guides here and was burning dvd`s in 30 minutes no problem, try reading the average instruction manuals you get with remote controls and lawn appliances, the instructions here are easy to follow.

I had the same problem. Finally went back to Shrink 305, using AutoshrinkISO and DvdDecrypter to burn. Then after Shrink finishes, the DVD is automatically burned and the computer shuts itself off. Does it all while I'm sleeping.

  14. If you have Nero 5.5 or later installed, DVD shrink 3.1 will automatically use the Nero burning engine. Its transparent and you don't have to open Nero. Just set it up to burn from DVD shrink ver3.1, it will automatically burn when done encoding. I have Nero Express 5.5 and it works.

  15. But does this create a fully compliant DVD disc? Remember that Nero is the worst DVD burning software on the face of the planet! Is it just burning an iso from Shrink or is it actually setting up the folders itself?

I just tried using the newer version of AutoshrinkISO. Works perfectly with DVDshrink 3.1.2, using latest version of DVDdecrypter to burn. No problematic Nero involved. All freeware. It makes the entire process almost automatic.
