I have one hard drive dedicated to 'Work in process', ie Video capture, clips, etc. When I check the 'Properties' for that drive it says 12.1 GB used, however, there are only two files on there and indivually they total 5.98 GB- what's going on here? This is not the primary drive. And there are no partitions. The 'Total Drive Space' in properties is correctly stated as 38.2 GB (40 GB HD less swap).

Empty your recycle bin. There's a good chance that you have large files in there that are associated with the drive. It sounds silly and so simple, but the files are still on that drive till they are emptied from the bin.
It could be many other things, but lets make sure to knock the simple stuff out of the way first. -
It could also be SYSTEM RESTORE data saved to the HDD if SYSTEM RESTORE is enabled.

A HIBERNATION file (equal in size to the amount of RAM installed) if HIBERNATION is enabled.
