I have a Korean Import of Dawn of the Dead, since I can't find it stateside for less than $80. The DVD has all kinds of problems though. The GOP structure is too long for one and thats really causing problems with playback. I figure my best bet is to re-encode it to a new MPEG2 file. I'll be using TMPGEnc for it. First question is, the FPS is 29.97 but its from film source, so would I be better off encoding at 29.97 or 23.976? and what should source be set to? Never done a DVD re-encode before so I'm not too familiar with the correct settings for this sort of thing.
Next question. the audio isn't too great. Sounds like its in a tin can. I've extracted it to wav for editing but so far nothing I've tried has done much good. I have GoldWave and Sound Forge at my disposal but I haven't done much with restoration work so I'm not sure if there may be something I'm missing that could help. If anyone wants a short clip of the sound so you can hear what I'm talking about i'll be glad to get it for you.
I know its getting to the point where the restoration really isn't worth it but I'd like to at least get a working copy out of the deal, unless someone knows where I can buy the US release for less than the cost of my soul?

Netflix has a copy you can watch. They have a free 2 week trial offer going on with the code "Friend50". They carry over 15,000 DVDs. You select what you want to watch and they send them to you in a prepaid return envelope. After the trial it cost $20 a month to have 3 movies out at a time.

Copying a movie licensed for rental purposes is ILLEGAL whether you own the original or not. Shame on you if you're suggesting such a thing !
