  1. is there any other large avi capturing program (that will use huffy compression) besides virtualdub? i recently did a clean install of winxp pro and i cant get virtualdub to work right.. ive tryed everything and the program still freezes when i try to end the capture (right mouse button). i really need to capture tonight but it seems the only way i can is to put win2000 back on here, and i really dont want to do that. i have ati aiw radeon 32mb agp with the new xp drivers on atis site. i beg you please help!

  3. i think i found what the problem, or getting close anyway, but have i have no idea how to fix it. i ran avi_io, seems to be the best alterative. i set it up, and start capture and it captures about 70 frames and then comes up with this error:

    Invalid setting
The actual framerate is higher then the one you requested! Your capture hardware/software does not support your requested framerate! Check your capture hardware manual for valid settings!

i set it to 29.97, 29.9706, and 30.0 and it does the same thing then avi_io also freezes after the error msg comes up, and i have to hard reset. anyone have a clue whats causing this?

  4. It may well be that your hardware is not up to the task.
Try lowering the frame rate to 25 (you'll notice little or
    no difference). Moreover:
The splendid (if not a bit overfinicky) VDub will not work
on Win2K and/or WinXP (the latter being nothing more then
the 1st desguised as a clown and provided with extra gadgets
    to impress gullible audiences).
If uou're stuck in VDub (as i am) you'll to try the WDM wrapper provided by Luke's Video (w3.geocities), if not try
    also AT2000 (mpegx.com).
    Good Luck.

  5. well i used to capture so perfectly with win2000 pro, and any capturing prog i tried.. thats not the case with winxp though. i mean it captures, i sit there and watch it capture in vdub, for as long as i want it to and only drops about a frame every 7 mins, and captures smoothly. but when i want to stop the capture the thing just freezes, and the avi is currupted aswell. it seems to do similar things with all capturing programs ive tried with it. there is a vfw driver instaled, and i even tryed the wdm-vfw (win2000 one i think) that i found, no difference. i guess i have no choice but to reformat and put win2000 back on here. damn.

If you are looking for a simple easy to use capture interface that has low overhead and supports DV and analog cards try PureMotion. I have a firewire card, ATI AIW, DC10+ and a Sigma Designs Real Magic DVR all installed on the same dual boot machine. Don't even ask about irqs and installation headaches. But PureMotion capture program sees them all and works with all but the DVR. The capture program comes with a demo version of their editing software and is"freely distributable." click here http://www.puremotion.com/capture/index.htm

  7. fingernalx, nice program it helped me figure out what was wrong, it must be my sound card. i tryed to capture with no sound and it did it perfectly, but when i tryed to capture with sound it froze up the program, just like with vdub and all the rest. i then tryed to cap in vdub with no audio, worked perfect also. so it has to be my sound card. its so old i dont think there will be any descent winxp support for it so i might as well just go and pick up another.
