But does this firmware allow the bitsetting tool to be used?

I upped to FSOG, have not had a problem, yet. They pulled that one after a week or so.

I'll DL it, before they pull it again.

    Cheers,

    George

Good news, being new however to bit settings I'm not really sure when to do it. Still good news that I can upgrade to an offical one that supports it, I'mstill using the pulled one.

    Flaystus,

I'm not SURE when to use bitsetting, either, but since all DVD players have to recognize the ROM format, seems that if your player won't read a DVD+R, then it will read a +R set to ROM.

I'll know this works when I try one in my daughter's Samsung M101. The player list to the left has reports that it will read anything, but it has never read a single thing I have burnt, VCD/CVD/SVCD/X/DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RW.
    Nothing but bought/rented disks.

Have to take one to her house and try.

    Cheers,

    George

  7. Yeah, my parents have a old Toshiba 2 disk dvd player that has a known firmware that prevents the playback of any recorded media even cd-r. With a dvd+r set to dvd-rom I was finally able to get a recorded disk of any type to play in this player.

Yeah but my question is do you bit set before or after the burn? I just don't understand WHEN to do it. And haven't had time to play around with it yet.

Of course I'll have tons of time this next week, cause I'm on vacation.

Use the bitsetting before you do a dvd+r burn.

  10. Using Nic's DVDInfoPro, you can:
*Set booktype before burn = DVD+R
    *Set booktype before/after burn = DVD+RW

Set default DVD+R booktype to DVD-ROM
Set default DVD+RW booktype to DVD-RW

    Flaystus,

I don't know what they said, but I burned some DVDs for my g'daughter, + an -, and asked her to play them in her PS2, and she misunderstood, and tried them in her portable, you know, 5 or 6 inch screen? She said they hung, glitched, refused to play, whatever.

Reburned MIB with bit set to DVD-ROM, gave it to her tonight, she said it played perfectly. Not an expensive player, her aunts pooled to get it for her and her brother.

Bitseting must run in the background, and has to be started each time you go to burn.

It seems to work for me, will know for sure when the youngest's Samsung accepts something I have burned.

Did you see my post about Staples having the Pac Digital ( I think LiteOn ) 8X for 129 after 25 buck rebate?

    Cheers,

    George

DVDInfoPro bitsettings only work with ricoh drives.Liteon bitsetting app doesnt need to run in the background while burning, just set the drive to dvd-rom and close the bitsetter and the dvd will be burned with the settings, its just when you reboot you have to apply the bitsetter again.

    JohnsO,

Turn it on, set the bit, burn?

I think I tried to say not auto start. You boot it each time you burn, set the bit, shut down, boot it back up the next time.

    Cheers,

    George
