  1. I've recently been messing about with Virtualdub and the DivX 5.1.1 codec and have found that Virtualdub will only run on one processor thread when I have hyper threading enabled, making my encodes take almost double the time they could take.

I was wondering if any one knew of how to use Virtualdub with a dual processor/hyper threading environment to make full use of my processor.

Failing that, does anyone know any other AVI editing programs that can run on hyper threaded processors with roughly the same options as I use in Virtualdub, which are simply being able to capture in uncompressed/huffyuv/picvideo avi and easily cut and encode videos.

Sorry, almost forgot to add this. It is the Virtualdub MPEG2/AC3 mod I'm using because it is mainly DVD's or MPEG2 streams taken from a USB linked digital TV tuner that I am editing.

    Thanks for your help

  2. Since VirtualDub (to my knowledge) doesn't support more than one CPU, you can only run it on one. There needs to be an update on the VirtualDub software for it to work. Looks like you're stuck with 1 CPU.

Also, since it's a virtual 2 CPU configuration, I don't think you'll loose as much as 50% of the processing power...

  3. Thanks for your help in clearing that up.

Guess I'm stuck running on a single thread.

  4. I guess you could use AviSynth to open the MPEG-2 file and then open the .avs file in VirtualDub. Decoding would then take place in a separate thread. I've tried a similar thing with a Dual P3 & VBLE-encoded avi. Setting up was simple and there was some speedup.

  5. Thanks RemoteCtrl.

I'll try that and see how it works.
