  1. I have an AVI file that has an audio codec that none of my programs recognize. I checked the file with G Spot and it says that I have the audio codec, yet none of my programs can play the audio. VirtualDub says it's unable to decompress the audio, Windows Media Player just shuts down.

    This is the info that G Spot tells me about the codec:
    Audio Format:
    Code: 0x2000
    Name: WAVE_FORMAT_AC3
    Vendor: Dolby Laboratories, Inc

    The following codec should be capable of processing this format:

    --> AC3 from AVI XForm --> AC3 Prologic Decoder

    Anyone know what's wrong?

  2. Install AC3Filter, that should solve the problem.

  3. I installed that and the good thing is I can hear the audio now, the bad thing is that I can only hear it in Windows Media Player. Neither VirtualDub nor TMPGEnc recognize it for some reason?

    AC3Filter is a DirectShow filter. VDub (so far) works only with VFW, not DShow. Not sure about TMPGEnc (although you could try changing the codec priority #'s).
