  1. I have a set of 20 .avi files that I would like to put on DVD to be able to watch them on my tv. I have tried going through the How-To's, but I'm really not even sure which one to read.

    If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not sure where to start.

    Thanks.

    Well, you will have to read a few before you know what you need. There is no real way around reading.

    I've got TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, but don't know how to use it.

    You will also an authoring program like Nero Express, to burn your DVD.

    Anyway, go to the Convert section and find a guide that shows you how to convert AVI files to MPEG DVD with TMPGEnc. Then take your MPEG file and have Nero Express author and burn it to a DVD.

    Check this guide out:

    http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html

    ...I find it VERY useful for explaining and helping to refine the settings in the TMPGEnc. It talks about doing the video only. The bitrates I use are:

    Max = 9,200
    Average = 6,000
    Min = 2,000

    I extract a WAV (audio) from my DV AVI using VirtualDub and convert WAV -> AC3 (@ 192kbps) using ffmpeggui.

    Then combine (mux) the 2 when authoring using TMPGEnc DVD Author and get excellent quality results.

    Good luck. Hope that helps...
