Thank you all Sharp DV-RW2U users for having helped me choose the DV-RW2U.

I have received yesterday my DV-RW2U from B&H in NY.

Not only did I save a lot of money (nearly $400.00 CAN) compared to buying a Panasonic E-60 here, in Montreal, but this recorder is even better than I expected.

I burned the TV NEWS in mode SP yesterday, and IMHO, I find that the pictures look even better than what I was looking at on the tv while recording. This 2 hour mode is excellent. No pixellation seen even on fast movements.

This morning, I succeeded in loading the burned disk on my iMac iMovie timeline from the DV-RW2U. It could be edited on the computer if necessary. I used the Firewire connector.

Another experiment I did to-day: burned edited videos to a DVD-R directly from the timeline of my iMac, in Fine mode. I used the Firewire connector again.

Excellent result. Same quality as original.

By the way, I used MEMOREX DVD-R/W and they work fine.

Who needs a computer DVD writer now? Glad I did not buy a Panasonic with its DVD-Ram recording (the least compatible).

    Thank you so much,

    Yvon

I've had mine now for 6 months and can honestly say I've not had any problems with either the machine or any of the discs made by it. I took a gamble when I bought mine, since I'd only seen 1 review of it at the time. But I think I made the right choice for my needs. It took me a couple days to realize there was a fan in the back, since it was so quiet.

Well if you want fancy title/chapter menus, then you still need a DVD burner since you can't transfer menus to the Sharp via Firewire.

  5. Just because it's a homemade dvd doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't spruce it up. :P
