Can anybody here tell me what the original version number of the firmware
    for a:
    CynDyne-NEC DVD+R/RW ND-1100A
    Here is the troubles...
    I have a Cyberhome Set-Top box model CH-DVD-402
It will not see DVD+R discs as a video disc
But will see DVD+RW disc and DVD-ROM disc

Now I tried to update the firmware of my NEC drive.
    Now when ever I try to use NERO-6.3.00.2 to write to a;
DVD+RW it writes the disc using DVD-ROM book type.
DVD+R it writes the disc as a DVD+R disc

When in the past before I tried to update the firmware it would write DVD+RW
    as a DVD+RW and a DVD+R as a DVD-ROM book types.

OR has the latest version of NERO changed something that is causing my
    troubles??
changing the [X] box for the book type is not changing the book type that
    the drive is writing.

  2. I heard the Nec1100 can be flashed with the hacked 1.08 firmware for the Nec1300 that allows extended bitsetting via DVDInfo PRO .

Of course it won't write to DVD-R/W media but will give better writing performance and fully bitsettable...

    Do a little search

I had tried that patch because I had read the same thing .. but that was before the utility for bit/book type setting was released.. but I also read that NERO does not work with the bit setting software so it is sort of a catch '22'.. but will try it again!

Nero has nothing to do with it...Nero does not override the booktype settings in this case.

Well I have downloaded the firmware versions and will see what happens next...

I just know for some reason everything was working just fine on my system till I had a bad Windows update which damaged my regestery and forced me to reformat and build all my software.... and I only installed the newest updates.. and nothing has worked correcly since!

  6. Dont forget the README file

...All versions of the original NEC1300 firmware do not indicate
the correct book type of DVD+R medias. Regardless whether a
DVD+R has a changed book type or not the NEC returns the
book type DVD+R for all DVD+R medias.

Example: if you burn a DVD+R with book type DVD-ROM the NEC
will write the book type DVD-ROM on DVD but will return DVD+R to
NeroInfo or DVDInfo. That fact does not affect reading the DVD.

Solution: If you want to know which book type is on your
DVD+R then use a different DVD-Drive to read out book type
    (for example a Tosh 1712).

    - NERO:

After erasing a preformated DVD+RW with NERO the book type seems
not to be changed. But after burning a DVD the selected
    book type will be correct.
Solution: use DVDInfo Pro to format your DVD+RW discs.

    - NO BITSETTING WITH NERO
Because of the insufficient book type features of NERO this
firmware detects NERO and does not offer book type capabilities
to NERO. That means NERO will never burn that book type you
have selected with DVDInfo for example. NERO does not affect
    book type settings.

    - NO BITSETTING OF CURRENT MEDIA
This firmware cannot change book type settings of the current
media afterwards (like a HP300 do), i.e. you must select the
desired book type before burning a DVD!! That is no restriction.....

    First :
I want to say Thanks to everybody that replied!!!!

    SecondL
I download a utility named "BITSETTER" from DVDPLUSRW.ORG [or least I think that is where the utility came from].

And used it to set the Book Type to DVD-ROM for both disc types that I use.

Now NERO-6 was still causing me cousters.... after the burn to a DVD+R disk the boot type was still DVD+R and not DVD-ROM!?

Bitsetter said the drive was set for "DVD+R=DVD-ROM"

So I used another program to burn from my harddrive folder.. and it worte the selected book type of "DVD-ROM" to the "DVD+R" media.

I did not install the newer ND-1300 firmware on my ND-1100 as I am currently running the latest ND-1100 firmware of "1.H1"

But at least I have been able to track down what I need to do to bet discs burned that will work on my settop boxes!

    Again
I want to say Thanks to everybody that replied!!!!

  8. Great

I thought Maurice's DVD Bitsetter worked with Ricoh type drives only...

What was the other program you used?

Cyberlink's "PowerProducer 2" as all the other software that I currently have will not allow me to burn from a harddrive folder.. I have to create a ISO or other 'DISC IMAGE' if I do not burn directly from with in the program.

Unless you can suggest a good "Freeware" DVD Burning program that will burn from harddrive folders?
