  1. I have captured a home movie that contains the usual home movie soundtrack of people talking, traffic noises etc. etc.

I authored a DVD from that movie and I put music on top of the original audio and it worked fine. Now people are asking me to keep the original audio and have the ability to put another music track on as an optional extra.
Basically I need to add an audio track like a director's commentary, accessible by pressing 'Audio' on your remote and when it's turned off the movie plays with the original home movie audio.

I've had a quick look through other posts and people mention cases where this is kind of what they want to do but I need to be sure before I burn a dud DVD.

So, does anyone know what software I can use to do this? I have been told Adobe Encore is one but I've also heard that it's REALLY buggy and has a steep learning curve. Seeing as all I want to do is add an extra audio track I really don't want to have to learn a difficult buggy program to do so. Hence, I'm hoping someone else has an idea that could help.

    Thanks!

Tmpgenc dvd author has a feature where you can add a second audio as bilingual, maybe that might work for you.

You can also use Ifoedit, which is freeware. It does support multiple audio tracks. It also enables chapter stops but little else--e.g. no menus. So, if you want just a basic DVD with only chapter stops and multiple audio tracks, Ifoedit works great. Although I've not tried it, I do recall a posted guide in which the multiple audio track VOB files were created in Ifoedit and then imported into DVDLab for menu creation--if having a menu is important to you. Hope this helps.

For about the same price as Adobe Encore, Sonic Solution's ReelDVD supports up to eight audio tracks and it can convert your WAV files to 2.0 AC3 format. I have a copy of TMPGEnc DVD Author and I have not tried the feature that they mention on their website about supporting bilingual programs, but I would assume that those two "tracks" (one for the left channel and one for the right) are going to be in mono. You probalby want your tracks, especially the actual movie footage to be in stereo.
