  1. Hi !
I have problems converting an svcd file to divx. I follow the tutorial but i can't apply the resize filter when i use fast recompress. I've searched the net for an answer and found this :

VirtualDub runs in RGB when you use Normal Recompress or Full Processing Mode (in the Video dropdown menu). All of VirtualDub's internal functions and filters run in RGB colorspace only. However, Fast Recompress doesn't decode the video to RGB, and instead just shunts whatever your source is into the compressor you've selected - thus if your source is YUV it shunts the video data as YUV into the video compressor

Is there a way to do what i want or not. Is the tutorial wrong ? Am i a dick ?

I've never tried a svcd to divx conversion using "fast recompress" or "normal recompress". I always use "full processing mode" and the resize filter works just fine.

you have to use "full process mode" to apply any filters.

That's what I figured. What are "normal" and "fast" recompress used for then?

check here for a good explanation of the video processing modes in Virtualdub and why to use one over the other. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/145121.php
hope this helps as much as it has me.

Thanks for the link, as this will be good to know in the future. However I can't think of too many situations I'll have the chance to use fast recompress because I use filters for damned near enverything.

  7. To work in the same colorspace (YUY2) using fast recompress in Virtual Dub, use avisynth to create an avs file to load into VirtualDub. In that AVS file you can resize the file in a breeze and you will be able to encode with less quality los and at a faster rate than normal/full recompress.

  8. Oh, and avisynth has a lot of other filters you can use in place of virtualdub filters... though the options of previewing virtualdub filters makes it quite nice.
