Discovered this on Canopus' official web site. Someones answered everyones prayers.
Its here, the perfect solution for all our analogue to digital video/audio transfers.
It a nutshell, its an external version of the ADVC-50.
Its a ADVC-100 without the output.
Same technology, same encoding...perfect!!
Its a snip and a fraction of the price of an ADVC-100 and its much smarter looking. I don't know about for you in the States, but here in UK, going by its RRP, it'll be cheaper than the DAC and similar to the Pyro A/V Link?
I need to find a distributor quick!!
Only hope is that it does not suffer from the same problems as the ADVC 50s and 100s with Win XP Sp1 and DX9.0
Edit:
Read the spec. It looks as though it works on Win XP with SP1.
But it don't seen to be available to me online yet? Seems like its only been released in Japan (going on the fact that ADVC-55 on google returns all japanese web sites) yet though its advertised on the UK canopus web site..

On the web site, there is a cross next to locked audio/video sync which means it does not have this.
However, a post by tech support in the support forums states:
"Well, actually it does sync the audio to the video like the other ADVCs do.
But there are some technicalities that keep "Locked Audio" from being a technically correct definition in its case."
I think they may just be saying that but really its like Datavideo's DAC-100...it does not support Audio Lock but in most cases it does it (but I wonder if the VHS quality was not very good, the results may be poor..) -
Sounds good! For what it's worth, I'm running XP SP1 DX 9 with the ADVC 100 and I've never had a single issue. Don't want anyone thinking it's incompatible given the previous post...
