TMPGEnc does not support WMV files. You need to convert it to another format or try to get a hold of virtualdub 1.3c. This was the last version of virtualdub that supported asf and wmv files.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. I open WMV files with TMPGEnc quite often to convert to VCD and SVCD. No issues, just install the Windows Media 9 Codecs. It will allow WMV files to be opened in TMPGEnc.
Fixed it for me and several others.

After installing the codecs you also need to make sure that the 'DirectShow Multimedia File Reader' option is selected in the 'Environmental Settings' in TMPGenc.

In Explorer go to Tools->Folder Options->View and uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types".Then rename to "xxx.asf" then answer yes when Windows asks you "Are You Sure...?"

my apologies for incorrect info in my post - I forgot about making the directshow a higher priority.
    If in doubt, Google it.
