one very annoying problem when it comes to backing up single layer discs- finding them! none of my local rental shops have batman returns so i can't back it up! does anyone know of another way i could get a loan of a disc? i suppose i could buy it, back it up and return it, but it would not be worth the hassle!

  5. I get most of mine from netflix or other online dvd rental places or the library. If you live in or near a big city, go to the library with the most dvds, most of them let you rent the dvds for free now. My local library has some but the selection sucks and you have to pay for it.

I was wondering if maybe it would be easier to just list the mistakes on these pages:

    http://www.geocities.com/singlelayerdvd/allsinglelayerdvds.txt
    http://www.imdb.com/Sections/DVDs/
    http://www.dvdempire.com/

That or just compare all three and see what you come up with. The IMDB for example says that Blue Velvet: Special Edition is single layer and the other two say otherwise. The fact is that that Special Edition is NOT single layered, only the first release of it is. From now on I'm just going to post the ones that are one those lists but aren't single layered.

more region 2 rental dvd's that are single layer: the beach, stir of echoes, don't say a word and the hole. oh and i managed to back up robocop today using ifoedit. however as it is a seemless branching disc it came out weird. the first 20 minutes seem to be either the cut or director's cut versions of scenes starting with the ed-209 killing the guy in the ocp boardroom. then after the 20 minutes the film starts. i dont if it's the director's cut or the normal version but i don't care as long as i got the whole film, and i managed to keep the comenntary as well!

Hi all, I'm trying to backup a DVD of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's size on the disk is about 4 gig, but the burned disks won't play. I've tried burning straight from the ripped file, and also from a file processed by DVD2one and from a file processed by DVD shrink, but still the disk doesn't work. Is it to do with the fact that the original disk is single layer. I've done loads of back ups before with no problem at all.
Please help, I've wasted three disks already.
    Thanks
