So far DL DVD-r is going to be slower. Most drives I see are 1x.

But DL DVD+R is faster. Most I see are listed at 2.4x and I've seen one that claims it burns the first layer at 4x and the second at 2.4x.

How about this Philips 16x DVD+R burner with support for DVD-R/RW and
    DVD+R9 in July. I can't wait.

  3. Any word on whether sony or philips plans to release any standalone dual burners(including price)? Or are they only planning to release them for PC's?

  4. I haven't seen Sony make them. They just rebag others. Maybe this one is going to be a Benq?

  5. Sony does have a dvd standalone console burner out, that I was considering purchasing. It burns +RW, -RW, -R dvds.

So that's why I was wondering if they'd make a dual layered stand alone burner, or allow you to update the existing one with firmware.

I also have a sony internal 510a -/+ R/RW burner, which I was wondering the same thing about.

I don't trust philips when it comes to dvd burners anymore.

    They basically suck.
