  1. I am trying to follow the directions posted on the Conversion pages that describe how to convert MPeg-2 to VCD using DVD2AVI and Tmpgenc (http://www.vcdhelp.com/mpeg2tovcd.htm). I have done it before but something seems to have changed with my software and I can't figure it out.

    The problem occurs in the DVD2AVI step. It seems to keep running and creates a massive audio file with extension:
    MPA T01 DELAY 0ms.mpa. Some of these files are bigger than 500 MB. As a result, the Tmpgenc process can't run properly.

    Any ideas on how I should fix this?

  2. That sounds about right. The uncompressed wav file should be ~1gb for most movies. TMPGenc should be able to read that. BUT I would try:

    1) Rip DVD
    2) Use DVD2AVI to generate D2V and Wav file.
    3) Use tooLame to encode wav -> mp2 (tooLame is command based, either run a dos box or use TMPGenc as a GUI for it):
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#toolame
    4) Use TMPGenc to ONLY encode the video (D2V) to MPV file.
    5) Mux MPV + MP2 -> MPG w/ TMPGenc or bbMPEG.

  3. Thanks for the reply - I should have mentioned that my original MPEG-2 movie was created using Ulead Video Studio and is about 3-1/2 minutes long and is about 120 MB. I had run through the process using DVD2AVI and Tmpgenc, and the resulting files created by DVD2AVI were 6.8 MB for the "* MPA T01 DELAY 0ms.mpa" file and 20 kB for the "*.d2v" file. Something has changed and doesn't appear to be working right. The new audio files are 100x larger than they were before.

    I was going to reload the DVD2AVI but the site has changed. Do you know where I can get a new copy?

    Thanks.

  4. I have had a few instances where the audio file balooned to up to over 9gigs. Then, TMPGEnc could read the resulting d2v file. This would happen sometimes with v1.74 of DVD2AVI when reading Dazzle DVC2 mpeg files (but not often).

    Whenever this would happen, I would run the same file through the 1.76 beta version of DVD2AVI which would provide the right files.

  5. Where can I get a copy of DVD2AVI V1.76. The site seems to have changed and it isn't clear how to download files from it. I tried this site: http://hiroko.ee.ntu.edu.tw/ But the re-direction doesn't seem to go to the right place.
