  1. Has anyone made use of the Linux OS to create VCDs? Is it any quicker at processing than Win2k?

  2. I have ... and there's the same software to do it on Windoze too.

Get your mpg movie first. Also get VCDImager (freeware) has both losedoze and linux versions.

With vcdimager you create a vcd or svcd .bin and .cue file(s). Then, under linux, use cdrdao to burn the CD using the .cue file. Under Windows I'm using CDRWIN to burn via the .cue file.

Nero, although it has cool menu features, causes anomalies in the burning process on my system. When I burn using the above method I have no issues.

http://www.mainactor.com has video capture software for linux ... no DV yet though. The linux programmers are still working on firewire drivers for linux.

  3. Pardon ...

VCDImager will take multiple mpg files ... just no menu.

Under linux I found things to run a little faster, mainly because linux makes better use of the hardware. However, the above process is slight quicker under Windoze as well IMHO; less overhead of larger, prettier programs.

Pity there is no Linux port of TMPEG to date. Do you know of any decent encoders?

What is this TMPEG program? I have seen it mentioned in numerous posts on various forums here, but no mention of what it is. I looked in the Tools section and could not find it. Please help.

Um... you can definitely create menus with VCDImager, and much better ones that you could ever dream of creating with Nero.

Get the latest version of VCDImager (v0.7.10).
