  1. Is there a way to load games on the mac without having to put the game cd in each time. I have a four year old son that needs help each time. He tries but he scratches the CD all of the time.

    Thanks.

    Hmm. I've had success using Toast's copy mode to save a disc image to the hard drive. Then I mount the disc image when I play the game. My guess is that Apple's disc copy will do this as well.

    I don't think that a no-cd crack would involve warez. Warez would be downloading the entire game, thus keeping the company from making moeny from their hard work. If he bought the product, then he can edit it in anyway he wants. A crack only edits the programming, it doesn't give free stuff away. The problem is that it is mostly used in a warez fashion.

    If its hacking the game itself, its warez. My best friend got fined around 2,000$ for doing stuff like that. He had around 400 games of his own he cracked, and distributed. you could do the toast thing, but it takes up WAY too much disc space. My reccomendation is to get him a disc repair thing, like DiscDoctor.

  6. Warez? My Virtualdrive software is warez? I don't think so. Now if you're copying and distributing things...well.... But I have an old version of this: http://www.farstone.com/home/en/shtml/vdpoverview.shtml
    It's for PC AFAIK but I'm sure there's something MAC for it.....

    @qshartle:

    So if you rip your CDs to MP3s, then that is piracy also? Same concept. You want to USE what you paid for, but in a way that is different than intended. Kind of like smoking gum, or chewing cigarettes. :/ Besides, your "friend" who got fined was distributing them... you said so yourself. This guy wants to take preventative measures, which is perfectly legitimate.

    @Grady:

    At any rate, the toast method would work, OR just create a .dmg file out of your disks using disk utility. By doing so, you can make the disk iamge mount automatically just by double clicking on it. Pretty simple. Let me know if you need more help.

    The DMG method works. I couldn't find my Brood War CD at a friends house one day, but I had made a backup copy (the thing was really scratched, I had to Disc Doctor that baby) stored as a DMG (pre-Toast 5) somewhere in the depths of my "CRAP" folder, and after about 2 minutes of searching, mounted that baby and it played like the real thing.

    dmg method works, however for a lot of the newer games the mounted image isnt recognized as a cd....

    you could always burn the game cd to cdr and have him use that instead and you keep the master

    if the cdr gets busted just make a new one from the unscratched master you keep hold of
