Ok, so i author or convert a dvd to the right format and then try to burn it. It starts out just fine, but the moment it hits sector 16 the whole system halts, dead. DVD is coastered and i'm left with files. NOw, here is the catch, it only does this on certain movie ie: Billy Madison. The bibgger catch is: They burn just fine to a DVD+RW!! NO errors, no freezing, nothing.

I chose to metion billly madison beacuse it needs no reformatting, it will fit on a dvd+r as is. I'm stumped, i've tried a few different programs, like nero, CloneDVD... same thing.... any help woul be great!

    AMD XP +2800
    512MB
    80GB WD
_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A DVD BUrner (out of box)
    WMP 8.00.00
    Nero 6 Ultra
    MSI GEforce 4 ti4800
Soltek MB (can't get model at moment (at work))

    Thanks!!!

Is it only Billy Madison that fails?

Try DVDDecrypter with ISO Read followed by ISO Write for DVDs that don't need compressing.

It does sound like a media problem if DVD+RWs work - but you say you have already tried different media. You could try:

    * burning at a slower speed (2x?)
    * a different format (e.g. DVD-R not DVD+R, etc.)
    * checking that DMA is set for the drive (and setting it if it isn't!)

Also, try both of the following:

    * running a DVD through DVD Shrink v2.3 (even if it doesn't need compressing) and then burning with TMPGEnc DVD Author (I use this and have never had a failure)
    * building an 'image' from the DVD Shrink output with imgtool and then burning with DVDDecrypter

All of these give more options to try and identify what the hell is going on.

Sorry, without more specifics you'll just have to take a punt!

  5. I have similar problem with Nero 6.3.X
DVD+RW and CD+RW burn just fine
Nero locks up at very end of the burn (when cache is almost empty at about 15%)

    Other applications burn just fine!!!

    Jukka:

Yo, ok, so its not only billy madison, titles include: the italian job, the other side of heaven, sum of all fears, thats all i've tried, i'm getting rather annoyed with it all so i havn't been burning much lately. I do have TMPGEnc DVD and since i got clone dvd i havn't used it .
i tried to burn just a plai data dvd using nero 6.3 and i got a bad block error. so i havn't been able to make a dta dvd yet either.
i was using nero recode last night to copy a movie i had already copied, and it pretty myuch made the dvd unreadable by my dvd-player (toshiba) and my computer, BUT my friiend took it home and it worked fine in his sony!?
i'm getting ready to format my computer, in case anything on my system is conflicting. i'm using memorex media with a NEC 1300A burner, i can't find any firmware for it, so i'm using what came with it.
i';ll give DVD shrink a try and see how that works for ,
i'll kepp ya posted with what happens

    Ok, still freezing up.
ONe last question, would it makes a difference if my dvd-rw was on the same IDE channel as my hard drive? its the only thing i can think of that would be affecting it.

From what I understand DVD writers respond well to being on the master part of the secondary channel (i.e. not with your HD!). You could try this.

Otherwise if this fails send it back and ask for a replacement or your money back.

Well, i did a format, switched the dvd-r to secondary master and installe XP pro back onto it... well, everything works fine, i've yet to have a coaster.
    weird...
either a software conflict or a IDE issue....
anyways, got it working, thanks all!
