  1. I just downloaded this program after reading a few posts. I thought it was going to fix my problem. See, I'm trying to cut out a few favorite scenes from some movies (as VOB files). Which I have done with Smartripper...then I want to edit them down a bit...I heard mpeg-vcr was good for that, but from what I can tell, it can old hold the edited files as VCD or SVCD...and from what I think I know...neither of these are as good as DVD quality.

Am I right here, or wrong? I want to edit some clips out but keep the DVD quality...

  2. The answer to your problem is Mpeg Video wizard 2003! It can edit vobs and then save them as mpeg2 but in DVD quality.(saved in Automatic mode) But then, if you want to to burn them in DVD, you need a DVD author programm.Hope this help.

  3. Couldn't I just demux the VOB files that I have, and then using any number of programs edit the mpeg (slight edits like fade in & outs) and then just put the streams back together & have my new VOB file to burn?

Is the program you suggest any better than just doing this? Cause the program is $150, and I can get cheap to free programs to do the stuff I just wrote.

  4. As far as I know, there is not any freeware program that can do what you want. Please correct me if I am wrong. On the other hand ,I think that they give you a 50$ gift if you buy this, so it costs 100$ and believe me you are going to use it very very often. It has transitions effects, and you can make titles and a soundtrack, and, best of all, you save time because it doesn't re-encode the mpegs! It is really very fast!

Womble MPEG-VCR edits VOB files. Do it all the time. But no, not free.

  6. sstavross:

I'm confused. are you saying the program allows all the editing without any recoding? is it editing the VOB on the fly, or is it pulling the mpeg stream out of it? (i'm assuming this if you said it leaves you with a mpeg file). IF the program can do simple edits without having to re-encode (keeping EXACT dvd quality intact) then I may just pay for something like that.

    lordsmurf:

I couldn't find an option in mpeg-vcr to save the edited VOB files without doing any recoding. I don't want to lose any quality during the editing phase. Please inform me if I'm wrong.

You're wrong. Just save the new file with a .VOB name. Look at my "removing commercials" guide on www.lordsmurf.com for more details.

  8. Lordsmurf,
My trial period of Womble mpg-vcr is almost up and I'm about to buy it. Is there any reason I should consider Womble Video Wizard instead? Is that the more advanced version of mpg-vcr or does it do more?

  9. I'm testing Mpeg Video Wizard 2003 but I can't find an easy way to cut commercials like lordsmurf's guide with mpeg-vcr.

Lordsmurf, have you tested this software? any change to include it in your removing guide?

I've not yet looked at the Video Wizard software, though I've gotten emails about it. Like everything else, when I find time I'll give it a look. I have downloaded a trial at minimum.

  12. lordsmurf: using your guide, I accomplished what I was setting out to do. I just forgot to save it as a VOB instead of MPG. If I do it all over again, am I correct to assume that I could demux the resulting VOB file & still get the mpeg2 & AC3 streams? When things turn out to be so easily done, I become a big sceptic

One last thing...I noticed a section on your page that has a screen capture of Gspot. I loaded the VOB file (and the edited mpg file) in Gspot and I don't get any information back (other than it being mpeg2)...n/a under video & audio. Is this normal?

  13. tried doing some fade in/outs to some clips and I'm not getting any results. When I go to save, it appears to finish, but I just get a saved filed that is 0 KB.

    WHat's up?
