  1. Can anyone tell me how to resolve a lip-sync issue I am having.
I've downloaded a 45min DivX file and I'm trying to convert it to VCD so I can play it on my DVD player.
My first attempt was simply through Nero, but that produced an AVI that was about a second out of sync between audio and video.
I then tried re-encoding separatetly through TmpgEnc, but that did the same, as did MainConcept Mpeg Encoder. My latest effort involved following the AVI->VCD guide on here (https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/91597.php), stripping the audio out to a WAV using virtualDub and then processing the video from the AVI and the audio from the wav, but to my frustration this produces the exact same result!

The DivX itself is fine and has no sync issues, but for the life of me I can't convert it and keep the audio/video in sync!
Can anyone suggest what to do next?

Yes, if the sync problem is constant thruout the clip (as I get the impression it is), after extracting the audio to wav format, load it up in an audio editor (GoldWave) and insert "about a second" of silence at the start if the audio is ahead of the video. If it's the other way around, you cut the corresponding amount at the start.
    Encode.

  3. Actually, if you're lucky that will fix your problem.

It sounds to me like you have an error on your avi file. If your sync is okay when you watch the avi then the sync problem ocurrs while converting. This is a common problem and there are many guides on this site showing you how to get rid of these bad frames. Quick tip, get videofixer and load up the avi. Click check and it will tell you if there are errors in a few seconds. If so, click fix and there is a 99% chance it can fix it with no more issues. My favorite program.

  5. thanks for the suggestions. i ran the file through divxfix and it didn't find any errors.
i'll take a shot at adding a small delay to the wav and see if that gets any success!

  6. played around a bit with the audio stream and goldwave, and a small pause at the start did the trick. its (almost) spot on now - so close that if you didn't know it was there, you wouldnt notice it...good enuff for me!

    Thanks for the suggestions
