  1. Hi all.
I try to to encode a .dv-file to divX, but mplayer crashes when he tries to autoscan the input .dv movie
After mplayer has been closed, the information line above the "Open.. field" doesn´t show any information, sometimes only the audio information.
Encoding to divX (libavec) with mencoder fails, encoding with ffmpeg works.
I reinstalled the binaries, but no change.

    Any ideas ?

  2. Could you try these commands in terminal mode, and post the result.

    ls -l /usr/bin/mplayer

    and:

    ls -l /usr/bin/mencoder

  3. Terminal says:

    [powerbook:~] jaypeepb% ls -l /usr/bin/mplayer

  4. This is OK.

Does your file have a .dv or .mov extension? Does changing the extension fix, and does enabling "Open Terminal window" change anything?

  5. Changing the extension doesn´t change anything.
Mplayer crashes, only audio info is displayed.
When I then try to encode with terminal window open it says:

  6. Try to reexport your file as MOV (DV) with Quicktime Player.

  7. Successful.
mplayer autoscanned the file correctly now.

    But where´s the problem ?
The original .dv was exported from imovie as "Quicktime movie/dv high quality"

  8. I think I'm getting the same issue.

Scenario: 5GB .mov digital video file. Mplayer crashes during scan of file.

From the crash report Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000030

    From Terminal (using commands below):
Last login: Wed Feb 4 21:25:02 on console
    Welcome to Darwin!
    Erins-Computer:~ Jon$ ls -l /usr/bin/mplayer
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 4658648 4 Feb 17:19 /usr/bin/mplayer
    Erins-Computer:~ Jon$ ls -l /usr/bin/mencoder
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 4549296 4 Feb 17:19 /usr/bin/mencoder

The file has an .mov extension. I'll try Quicktime Player.

  9. I had the same problems like you with .dv material from iMovie 3;
I could get mplayer to scan it by exporting it differently:
Choose export, then QT Film; use the setting dv-stream, and go to options; choose video medium quality and audio 32.000 Hz and locked/protected
It then works fine fo me, and i can use ffmpeg to export to DivX .avi

  10. Arnaut,

Thanks for the help. I used FCE2 to export as DV. And, we got about 1/2 way through before the entire computer crashed. I'm trying again using mplayer to decode instead of Quicktime. Has anyone had issues with QT6.5?

    KAR
