  2. You will need to re-encode, try TmpGenc.

Or you could try and fool the authoring software by patching the header info. Try DVDPatcher for this.

    absolomj,

Now others may suggest as your post stated that you change the resolution to be DVD compliant but what you have should work just fine. It does for me. In fact I have a number of xVCDs that I have put onto DVD with the same resolution as you have. In fact, I have several VCDs that were just authored and burned without any change (i.e., video nor audio). So far they work as advertised. I even have a few xVCDs at 352x240 that work just fine. However, the video is definately not DVD quality. But for me that is OK.

Thus, from my experieces and with what data you have provided, technically, I do not think you have to change the resolution. But for greatest compatibiliy (with some loss in quality) you can recode to DVD resolutions. TMPGenC is a good one for that.

On a different note, you did not mention converting the audio. And once again, my experience shows that this is not absolutely necessary, either. But for greatest compatibility, I would consider changing the audio to 48KHz, if it is not already at that freq.
Converting the audio is a fairly easy and straight forward process.
It requires demultiplexing the mpeg file into its video and audio components. TMPGenC is a good program to do this. Then there are many programs available to convert the audio from 44.1KHz to 48KHz. Goldwave, SSRC, TMPGenC just to mention a few. Once you have the new audio file, then TMPGenC can remultiplex the video and new audio files together into a new MPEG file. Then author this mpeg file and burn accordingly.

In closing, I may be lucky in that my hardware is not very picky. But, to be certain I would try just authoring your mpeg "as-is" and burning to a RW disc (cheaper this way) and view the results. If the sound does not meet your desires, then resample to 48KHz and repeat authoring and burning. If that does not meet your visual test, then recode to DVD specs and hope that you do not lose to much in the recode.

    Ed.

Try IFOEDIT.it's DVD author function makes no checks for compliance and will probably allow you to author a DVD that will play. It works converting SVCD 480x480 for example. You will need to demux your file. Try on DVD-RW to be sure.
