  1. Hi Paddington excellent guide!!!
It helped me a lot to learn a few things and I thought I should share my experiences with you and the guys.

I was trying to add Spanish subtitles to Timeline R1 NTSC DVD. The thing was that I wanted to keep the built-in English subtitles it came with. And the quality resulting from srt2sup subtitles was kinda low (no ofense srt2sup, just expressing my insight as a user)also the transparencys issues were dissapointing, so I thought there had to be another way. A post in this very topic let me know of DVDSupTools. I have to say that I was really pleased with the results, first it was way faster than srt2sup, but the font quality is equal to the comercial dvds.
Ok, so far so good, no there are a couple of things I didn't like about DVDSupTools. First the my charset was not fully supported for example the ñ letter was displayed differently. The other disadvantege is the lack of a GUI, in counterpart with our friend srt2sup who made a great job on that.
Oh by the way Supremap is really cool .
(To anyone interested DVDSupTools homepage )

Also I would like to know if there is a way to extract the menus from a dvd to be able to add them to a re-authored dvd with my own subtitles.(yeah, I know I'm a newbie... but please bare with me )

    Cheers.

  3. can anyone tell me a good font and color setting for srt2sup so that they more properly emulate that found in the original DVD? I used the default Arial at 20 pts and tried to pick a color scheme that had yellow lettering with black border, but the results look less than desirable. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me some precise steps on which options to choose. Thanks!

  5. Tried to add Dutch subtitles to a downloaded dvr.
Found subs for it,checked in sub.workshop if it was in sync,it was.
Followed ur guide, before burning tested the image in Powerdvd and yes I managed to replace the French subs that wer in the movie into the Dutch subs, showed up in there,no synchprobs and good subcolors.
then burned on a dvd and played it on my standalone, the Dutch subs were coming and going, the other languages that I kept were running ok.
What I do wrong, anyone else had the same problem?
    Thanks in advance.

  7. Hi!
I got this problem with 'British PAL' movies. When I add subs to them with srt2sup the subs flicker on my jvc xv n5 player. I did use the PAL option in srt2sup. It only happens with movies from England. Nordic and American is no problem. Anyone?

  8. I have two problems. after adding subs to a movie the audio and subs are good, but the video is not adjusted with the audio.
And why are the subs almost in the meddle of the screen?
By the way, the video was made from avi (the original adjustment is good), and there was no subs in the dvd image.

This guide is for one video with one subtitle, but my DVD is five videos with subtitles for each one. VobEdit gives me one .sup file, so how do I convert five .srt files to .sup and combine them into a single .sup file??

Also, demux only gave me .vob video files. Shouldn't it "rescue" the original .mpv and .mpa files that were used to make the DVD? I thought I should be able to reauthor, if replacing the subtitles didn't work.

I'm using DVD-Lab Pro 2, by the way.

Edit: I found a method for getting .mpv and .mpa files, but still no luck on multiple subtitles for multiple videos on a single DVD.

    Hi

I have downloaded the movie 300 and I have made it from avi to vob file. I put in subtitles English and Greek using Subtitle Workshop then Srt2Sup and I demultiplex it using VobEdit and then IFOEdit using the guide that you guys have posted on your site, I did everything your guide says. but when I play the movie some of the subtitles don’t show up. First they came out green but using DVDSubEdit I changed it to white, although all the subtitles appear in DVDSubEdit just fine, when I play the movie on a viewing program like WMP not all the subtitles show up. I also wrote it on a dvd using dvdshrink 3.2 thinking that it might just be a problem that that the programs have, I played it on in my dvd but still not all the subtitles show up. Do you guys have another program that can help me with my problem or am I stuck???

Ok i have done a few of these now and it has been successful, however i have added subtitles to a certain dvd...when i demux it it is fine, i srt to sup as per usual....author it to put it back together plus the subs...

but when i play it on the dvd player (nero show thing) it freezes as the subs begin to stream?

When i put the subtitles into the subtitle workshop previously with an avi copy of the film, it showed the film to be 23.. fps ...however i changed the subs to 25fps and saved as subrip since they seem to fit (where 30 does not)...you only have the choice between 25 and 30 in the srt2sup converter. Could this be what the problem is? That the frame rate isnt matching the film identically?

Other than that i cannot see what i have done incorrectly...i have put the color codes from the srt2sup into the ifo edit as always...

    ALSO

with ones i have successfully added subtitles to so far...the subtitles play perfectly on a dvd player, yet when i use my xbox to play the dvd (its my bedroom dvd player) it misses random subtitle lines out as though they never existed..

why is this and can i fix it?

With reference to the problem of the original menus not working (mentioned in steps 1 and 6 in the guide) when you only rip selected VOB's:

I have been using PgcEdit for some time now. It allows you to edit the existing menu buttons, add or delete menu buttons, create your own menus, and it can delete references to missing VTS files. I have used it in conjunction with IfoEdit and found my results to be quite satisfactory.
