    Hi

I have an Final Cut Pro movie file (297mb) which I have encoded to MPEG4 (1.6mb). Problem is, no-one except users with Macs can open it. What should I convert it to so that PC users with Windows Media Player and users with older QT versions, can use it, and keep it around 2mb (so that I can email)? Using ffmpeg (mpeg2enc) and have tried compressor to no avail!

  2. You don't need a MAC to open a it. 3ivx codec combined with Quicktime being installed should let you decode AND encode in the format. Never tried it but you are supposed to be able to open it and media player as long as 3ivx is installed.

    Try this link

As long as you are able to view the file then any emcoding program should also be able to open and view it to convert into any other format. A decoder is all you need, not an FCP encoder.

Thanks for that, appreciate your help!!

If the MPEG4 file that I have produced from the FCP movie file (using Compressor) is correct, then why would most people not be able to open it? I have emailed it around and it won't open. I receive mpegs on my work Laptop (running XP) email all the time and they always open in my work Windows Media Player, but I don't know why it (work wmp) won't open the Mpeg4 that I've created?...

  4. I have never tried to open an FCP file. I tried searching the net for an example file so I can attempt to open it in Windows but no luck. If you wanna send me the file you can either post it up in this forum by attaching the file or a link to it or just email it to cooljoebay@yahoo.com . That 3ivx codec isn't readily installed on pc's of any kind. So most people wouldn't be able to open it without updating their codecs.
