  1. First off, I am new to the whole dvd backing up scene, I;ve had my burner for just about a week now, although I've already made about 10 successful dvd movie backups.

For everything up to now, I've been using Fujifilm dvd-r 4x, which are dark purple dvds, identified as "TGYO1???"

However, they were pricy, so I risked buying Aterra 4x, 25 for 40$ at compucentre in MTL. I opened up the package, and they seem like exact duplicates of the fujifilm, and they are identified as "TGYO1" as well.
I've made one backup so far with them, and so far so well.

What worries me, is all the bad press I;ve read about them. Has anyone else used them? what were there results???

PS- I used the best looking dvd-r the batch, I must admit that many others are dirty and have smuges that look like streaks, honestly i've seen nothing like this before and don't know how they will perform?

    Specs:
    P4 2.4Ghz
    512 SDRAM 133Mhz
    80 GB hard drive
    LG GSA-4040B

    Best of luck buddy.
I split a 25 pack of these with a friend. I got 12 of them.
8 of the 12 failed during the burn phase.
The remaining 4 burnt to the end.
All the succesfull burns had stalls, stutters and would sieze-up eventually.
My friend had even less success than I. LOL
If you look at the media side, and you have, you will see why they don't work.
    Even VIGOROUS cleaning didn't help.
Spend the extra money and get media that works.
I have spent more money on cheap media than what it would have cost
me to buy the good stuff.
