Subtitles, how to do it with these progs (main steps)

Hey guys!

I have an xvid file (avi) and i would like to know how i can add a subtitle to it? It doesn't have to be selectable, just that you always see it.

I encode my avi file with TMPGEnc, and after that i extract the ac3 sound from the avi file, because TMPGEnc does not support this. Then i add the sound to the mpg in TMPGEnc DVD Author (these are the progs i would like to keep using, because i really like them).

Perhaps i can just add the srt-subtitle to my avi file??

Then everything would stay the same, and i would be VERY happy.
