  1. Hi,

New to posting but a regular visitor to this awesome resource.

I want to get into doing video (primarily VHS) conversion to DVD. I have 3 possible hardware setups and would like to know which one you all recommend.

Goal: Setup will have the best mix of speed / quality

    My Options:
    1. PC - ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon - LG4040B DVD Burner
    2. MAC G4 - external lassie DVD burner
    3. Panasonic EH100 External DVD Recorder - With access to MAC / PC / SVHS / DV / etc....

I know it depends on a few more factors such as CPU speed, etc.....

I'm looking for opinions and anything I should know.

With the setup, I might be looking into providing a VHS to DVD service in the future.

    Thanks
    JT

If you are looking at primarily doing VHS to DVD you might look at an external box like the ADVC-100 or similar. Makes it a little easier. Capture with a video card may give you better quality, but it has a steeper learning curve. Not that familiar with MAC resources. An ADVC will work with MAC or PC. It seems to be more tolerant of bad VHS sources. If you are stuck with the options you mention, the ATI is probably the best. You should check out lord smurfs site. He is the resident expert on ATI.
