How to use GPRMs in Scenarist ?

I tried to use GPRMs registers to control various things in Scenarist but it won't work.
For example, I tried to highlight button in my chapter menu regarding last played chapter (If user hit MENU during playback to go to chapter menu, I wanted to highlight buton that correspond to current chapter from which user pressed menu button).
By setting GPRM0 register to some value during playback (after cell played) and setting highlight button value to GPRM0 before menu is opened - nothing happened - fisrt button was highlighted instead one I wanted...
I also tried simple setting GPRM0 to some value and as a next command seting highlight button to GPRM0 but still no change...

What am I doing wrong in using GPRMs ?

yeah i would also like to find out more on how to use the GPRMs on SCENARIST! can anyone enlighten me or send me links to anywhere i can find out more?
the main prob i have is this:
for motion menu, for eg. i have several buttons namely 1-6 for eg. then i navigate to, lets say button 3... then the menu finish the loop. i wan the highlight to stay at dat button when the loop starts again instead of jumping back to the first button. anyhelp here?
n don't tell me to lengthen the menu.... cos i am currently doing a digital magazine... so sometimes the loop is not long enough for slow reader to finish reading... n so instead of having the viewer re-navigate again...(and also to hide the loop) can i set anything to let the highlight stay even when loop restart??

The manual has a pretty good tutorial on using the registers.

And you have to use command sequences to do this.

and how do i use the command sequence.... somehow i cant get it to work for me....
