  1. hey there,
i am currently trying to make a dvd backup using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink 3.0. when i open the file in shrink, it comes up as 56% compressed at 4,630 mb. there is still red in the compression bar and it tells me that all the files won't be burned when i go to back it up.

i have tried to use the ratio option, but there is no option to go lower than 56% (which i also don't understand, since i have seen folks in my quest for an answer talk about more compression than this number)). there is nothing that i want to deleat off the disk of substantial size that would bring it below the 4460 mb (or whatever it needs to be at). also, i thought dvd shrink 3.0 was supposed to open the file automatically to fit on a 4.7 gb dvd. my option is set to the 4.7 gb disk option under settings, and when it opens, the above values come up ( 56% at 4,630).

i have done the online tutorials, burned a couple of backups successfully, searched the web and forums, but haven't been able to find any information for my delima. any help would be much appreciated. thanks for your time in advance. -critter

Some DVDs do not compress well with Shrink - as much as I love the program it does struggle on the occasional backup. To get around this I have tried ripping to my HD first with either Smartripper or DVD Decrypter or stripping out everything and only doing the main movie.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. thanks for everyones input. keep it coming if you have new ideas. i am going for the shrink it twice route and will see what happens.

to lordsmurf, i am honered that you actually replied. i used your tutorials to learn this stuff. i am not quite sure what you mean when you say "slider." but, if you are refering to the bar next to the ratio option, i tried that but it wouldn't go below the compression stated in the first post. so if there is another slider, or if there is a way to overide the the bottom limits it set, please let me know.

also, isn't dvdshrink supposed to automatically compress it to fit onto 4.7gb dvd when you open it, or are my setting wrong, or is this a wrong assumption.

anyways, thanks to everyone for their time and energy on this one. it is very much appreciated. -critter

critter444, I think lordsmurf misread your post.
There is indeed a limit as to how much compression DVD Shrink can apply and you probably reached it in this case.

Please read the following thread (dvdshrink's post) for more information:

Yeah, I meant that slider, but yes (again) it can only shrink by so much.
