First, thanks to all involved with ffmpegX. Wonderful!
OK, I was having many problems writing SVCD .img files. My poor little G3 would grind away for 6 hours and then fail before the .img files were written. The following things fixed this:
- don't have odd characters or even spaces in the destination path
- have plenty of room on the destination drive
I'm not sure if the first is necessary, but it seemed so. The latter does not mean that if you expect a 300M file have a little over 300M available... have more. It finally worked for me when I cleared a 2G chunk. Give it plenty of room.
iMovie: I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I found a HUGE timesaver. You can use the tiny little .mov inside the iMovie project as the source! NO RESAVING OR EXPORTING! This has worked twice for me with no problems that I can see, and with great quality.
One caveat: on one of my SVCDs the last couple of seconds were lost. Maybe this is because of using the above noted source. Because the time savings is so great, I simply add a 5 second black screen to the end of iMove projects to cover this.
