I mean a recorder that will record for example 720p. Is this even possible?

Don't you mean HDTV ?Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
Two were announced at CES. Both are satellite TV receivers if I remember correctly.

I don't know what resolution this thing records in.
Another way to record HDTV is on JVC's D-VHS recorder which records in 1080i. -

Disnetwork has one. You can Go to their website www.dishnetwork.com and click on products>recivers>hdtv recivers. they have a 921 receiver with 250GB hd recods upto 25hrs HDTV
