  1. I am trying to get a list of DVD+R/RW's that are compatible with this recorder. I cannot download the list on the website for the product because I have a webtv. I would also like to know where the best deals are to get these disks. Any help at all would be appreciated because I have yet to find someone to help me on this issue.

I got a 25 pack of RITEK 2.4X DVD+RW from Shop4Tech for around $40 inc free shipping. Deals can be had for less than this if you keep your eye out. I have experienced no problems with the RITEK discs. A quick look at Shop4Tech's site shows they are doing the Optodisc DVD+RW 2.4X for $32.25 for 25 discs inc free shipping.

  4. Thank you so much for your help!! Now I have to get some credit on the card back from bad purchases and try these. Any one else that can help me find good deals on these disks would greatly be appreciated. I also had another question...does the speed of the disk determine how much you are able to store on it?

  5. No the speed of the disc does not affect the amount you can store on it. The disc will store around 4.3GB of video regardless of the speed.

To my knowledge the speed of the disc on desktop recorders WITHOUT a HDD is irrelevant as it records in realtime. Maybe it affects the amount of time to finalize a disc or make compatible? If you have a HDD on your recorder it would affect the amount of time to dub from the HDD to a disc.

Little off topic but media speed is important for Recorders that offer PWR (Play While Recording). You need at least 2x media for that function.

  7. Any information and tips help because I have never worked any equipment like this before. Are there any other online sites to buy the compatible disks at to record on besides SHop4Tech? I am trying to find some of the disks but the only ones I find prodominantly are the RITEKs. And is the number on the descriptions given (like R02) important to find in the description to buy these disks?

  8. Problem with media is that it says something when you buy and inside is different media. That is what that another text (f.e. RICOHJPN R01) mean. You can find with DVD Writer (one in PC) and DVDInfoPro what realy manufacturer ID is.

Another websites that I know are

  10. Just curious of the success (or lack thereof) you have had playing the 1500's DVD+Rs in other players. (And yes, I did give them plenty of time to 'Finalize.')

I have had absolutely no luck using 4x DVD+R RITEK RICOHHJPN R01 discs branded as a Fuji spindle. The 1500 will play them all day long, but I have had no success playing them in 5 different units: a Cyberhome CH-500, CH-402, Pioneer DVD-R burner, Emprex DVD±R burner, or my Vaio laptop DVD player. The +RW discs play pretty well in most of those players, believe it or not.

I can actually copy all the +R files onto my hard drive, except one tiny ifo file which is crucial to the menu structure, apparently. It says it can't read that file.

So now, the only solution seems to be to record in +RW then copy them to + or -R on my computer. Not exactly the hassle-free process I had in mind.

The Ritek media I used is on Cyberhome's list of 'supported blank DVD+R discs.' I used DVDinfoPro to determine the exact media type, and highly recommend its use prior to engaging in media type discussion. http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

I figured that if mine was a widespread problem I would have heard a lot more complaints about it, but there are few. Surely I'm not the only one who has had this problem, though.

What +R media types have you had success playing on a wide variety of relatively new players?

    100 Matrix DVD+R 4X Plus DVD Case Combo by shop4tech (MATCOMBO+4X)

I have burnt 90 and play this in 3 different players, only having problems with about 6 total that would not play in all machines. Burnt the 6 again and no problems.
