  1. I have some home videos I made and I want to share them with friends, etc.

One file is maybe 10 min, but when I export using imovie, and avi settings of "better" for example, the resulting file is close to 1gb. The compression in imovie offers dv, dvntsc, etc., I don't see options for sorenson, cinepak, etc.

How do I export to a reasonable sized file? Do I need to take that file and then convert using ffmpeg, or something like that?

what .avi codec are you using... this has everything to do with it. You should install DivX Pro.

To export to other Quicktiem Codecs simply do the following:

    Click File/Export

    Set it to the following:
    Export: Quicktime
    Formats: Expert Settings

    Set export to Quicktime Movie
    Click Options
    Under Video click Settings

You can then select the Quicktime Codec you want to use.

  4. I see where I can do that, the only issue is, I can't export to .mov, as i need to share this with the PC world. that's why I was looking at avi as an option.

    thanks for the help

  6. I didn't think WMP could play .mov files. THis would assume that the PC'er has QT installed, right?
