  1. hi, im new in encoding but i've already encoded some movies by following the directions stated in this site. recently, i've encoded the movie s.w.a.t. and what i don't know is, why are squares appearing on my movie during high motion scenes? is this normal because of the low quality of svcd? by the way, here's my settings:

    Size: 720 x 480
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    CBR 1600 kbps
    Encode mode: non-interlace

You obviously didn't do any reading.

Size: 720 x 480 is DVD resolution, not SVCD

Aspect Ratio: 16:9 are you sure? SVCD doesn't support 16:9

CBR 1600 kbps this is too low for SVCD, much less DVD resolutions

Encode mode: non-interlace DVD's should be interlaced, not non-interlaced

Now, what did you actually do? Convert DVD to SVCD or convert an AVI to SVCD or convert an AVI to DVD?

You might want to try using the SVCD template with variable bit rate. Also, if you look at the setting values for that template you'll see they're a lot different than what you were attempting. I'm sure even the SVCD template using CBR would be much better than what you ended up with. Either way, just experiment but try not to stray too far away from the template's settings.
