  1. Hi,

I've a Panasonic DMR-E50 (region2) dvd-recorder. Now i want to copy a NTSC video-tape to my recorder. I use a Panasonic HD640 vcr (PAL with NTSC playback) Now when i try to copy it, and i set PAL as output on the dvd-recorder, then it will record in color but i got a weird border on the bottom as well. When i set NTSC on my dvd-recorder then it records in black and white. Does anybody have an idea how i can copy it in color and without borders? Any sugguestion is welcome !

My brother has the Philips 70 dvd recorder(region2) and he had no problem at all to copy the NTSC tape to an dvdr.

Not specific, like it doesn't say as well that it does record in PAL.

Some parts of my manual: Select the Tv-system (PAL/NTSC) of the program that you wish to record.

This recorder can't record PAL signals on a dvd with NTSC signals or vice versa.

    Videosystem PAL/NTSC

I know it's possible to record of a NTSC input signal.

  4. Two thing's one get a World Wide VCR. They go for about $400.00 dollars not cheep samsung make's them. You pu the NTSC tape in and it will send out a PAL signal. Other way use a capture card on the PC I would get a ATI AIW Radeon and use Videosoap to clean up the picture.

Otherwise, I'd say be rrrreeeaaallll nice to your brother.

LOL Sure that wouldn't be a problem. But i have so many NTSC laserdiscs, that i want to copy as well on dvdr. In fact that was the main reason why i bought that recorder anyway.

But thanks for all the advices, i really appreciate!

  7. "Muttley36" If you have Laser Disc when you might want a Dazzle 2 capture card read about it at www.dazzlegeek.com forum it's the best MPEG2 card out there

  8. I am confused I going to try to sort facts...

    - Panasonic DMR-E50 (region2) DVD Recorder (EU)
    - Panasonic HD640 VCR (PAL with NTSC playback)

    - Copy NTSC VHS Tape to DVD

Now can you explain this better ?

Don't you need to change input ?

What VCR is your brother using ?

Did you try to send NTSC signal from VCR ? Does it have that option ? Not NTSC to PAL playbeck but pure NTSC.

Hey Muttley36, I have the very same problem. I just bought my Panny e50 today - for exactly the same reasons as yourself (to record NTSC vids onto DVD). I also experienced the "black bar" along the bottom of the screen but Im determined to crack this problem. Let me fiddle about a bit more and I'll see if I can sort this problem. Cheers.

I think VCR's that play NTSC videos ouput the video as PAL 60 Hz.

I have the Panasonic E50 and as you said I think It will record an NTSC input as well as PAL.

The thing is it sounds like the E50 needs a PAL 50 Hz input to give a proper picture.

I dont think you will find a UK VCR that will output NTSC as PAL 50 but you may find a laser disc player may?

  11. Micoman is exactly right. It seems nearly all UK VHS players convert NTSC videos into PAL 60. The Panasonic range of dvd recorders do not support hybrid formats like PAL 60, only PAL 50hz and NTSC 60hz.

You need to find a VCR that outputs in true NTSC (easier said than done )

  12. Hey Guys i have the E50 and i have successfully transfered NTSC VHS tapes to DVD-R. The video recordewr i use is a Thomson VPH 7090. what you have to do is select NTSC output on the video recorder and NTSC input on the E50. Works a treat. Don't know where you'd get the Thomson from now though as its a few years old now.
