    good god...where to start?

ok...i've got an AVI file that i am assuming was originally PAL...it's an uncut version of a film that was originally only released as PAL...so with that, i guess i am just assuming that the source file is PAL...

and when i try to encode it to MPEG/VCD, the audio and video arent synched correctly...so i tried to use this walk-thru to solve my problem...

    https://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm

i ripped the audio with VirtualDub from the source file, and then i used the separated audio file as the audio source when i encoded the video to MPEG...

but the audio still wont match up with the video correctly...and in TMPGEnc, i have tried to encode the file as VideoCD (NTSC), VideoCD(NTSCfilm), and as VideoCD (PAL)...all with the same results...

in VirtualDub, i did the audio conversion with the sampling rate of 44100Hz...just like the guide said to...

now what i am wondering is this...is there a way to split the AVI before encoding it to MPEG? the way things are now, the MPEG that i make from the AVI - the audio and video match up fine through about half of the movie...but as the movie progresses, the audio gets faster than the video and happens before it is supposed to within the film...i figured if i could split the AVI first, and then rip the audio from each of those 2 AVI files and then encode the 2 parts separately with ripped audio and video source from part 1 and then ripped audio and video source from part 2, then it would synch correctly...

damn that's hard to explain what i'm getting at, and hopefully it makes sense...i'm sure there will be questions as to what i mean, so i guess i'll just wait for those questions to be addressed...

any help will be GREATLY appreciated...

  2. Before going any further make sure the format of your avi, to find out what format it is (NTSC or PAL) use G-spot to tell you because converting the framerate from one to another is the biggest cause of sync problems.

ok...i DLed G-Spot and rendered the file...this is what came up...

i wasnt sure exactly where it was that it tells whether it's PAL or NTSC...

    thanks Harley

  4. It is film NTSC you will either have to change your settings accordingly or change the framerate first, look here to change framerates.

ok...i'm kinda using this guide HERE right now...

in particular, the "do not frame rate conversion" in TMPGEnc with the video coming from the source and the audio that i ripped with virtual dub...

it's very similar to this OTHER THREAD that i found earlier, posted by someone else with a similar problem...i had already started to use the hints provided in that thread before you recommended the link that you did...but they are pretty similar, so we'll se how this turns out...

i still have a little over 2 hours before it will be finished, so i'll let you know how this works out...

well that didnt work...i'll have to try something else...

what i dont understand though is if the source is NTSC and i'm encoding to NTSC, why does the audio and video get out of sync? i've never had this problem with any other NTSC file, so why with this one?
